general strategy question for everyone out there… when you flag a question on the exam do you go ahead and answer it and then come back to review or do you leave it blank and answer it when you return to it…

and they ask me why I drink...

FAR- 61-next time I'll ask for lube instead of a calculator
REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade
    BEC- 8/11
    AUD- 9/2

I always try to answer the 1st time I see the question. Even if I don't know it i'll use an educated guess. After finish all the questions I go back to any flagged ones and take another shot at it. Sometimes another questions triggers certain parts of your brain and when you see the questions again you won't freeze up or it makes more sense

I usually try to make an educated guess at a question I flagged. At the end of each section I go back and try to do the calc all over again. Basically making sure I can prove the same thing twice and to make sure my calcs were correct. I don't like leaving it blank because I come back and assume all answers are in play and double up the time spent on a question.

If I don't immediately know the answer to a question I flag it, leave it blank and move on. Once I've gotten to the end of the testlet I go back and answer all the flagged questions.

I never leave a question blank. I usually only flag 2-3 because I don’t want to waste time second guessing myself. From my (vast) exam taking experience, I do better if I stick to my schedule. My schedule leaves no time for going back. 😉

I don't think there is much point in flagging conceptual questions. With those you either know it or you don't.

I mean it doesn't really matter unless you are worried about running out of time. Flagging a lot of questions and going back to them can suck up time.

I actually do the opposite, flagging questions I've answered until everything is flagged, then I go back to check it all over if there's time. Working the questions in order doesn't suit me. It makes me too fearful of the clock. I also like the freedom of hunting for the least discouraging questions in the testlet, knocking those out and winning back some time. Haven't heard of anyone else doing it this way but I think it helps!

wow @RoadWarrior this amazes me- I am not sure my brain could keep it straight- ha ha ha… I actually do this with my SIMS but have never thought to do it with the mcq's, however typically I only flag if it is something I absolutely do not know / or at least in the case of AUD torn between two answers. How is your timing on the exams so far? I would be so afraid I would run out of time doing it that way.

I do the questions out of order also. I like to do all the conceptual questions first. Then I go back and do the computation ones. I don't flag much at all. I ran out of time on BEC and FAR, so I don't know if you want my advice.

@mckan514w it actually helps my time! It's hard for me to walk away from questions I get stuck on, so I immediately click around to find the ones I feel that I can answer more quickly. Usually that means the shorter questions. I would definitely run out of time if I was doing them in order, but I have never run out the clock in my test taking (5 attempts/3 passes thus far) although I could certainly do with more of it! 45 min/testlet + the balance for sims. I write it down and stick to it.
