Take FAR or skip the test?

    Hope everyone is doing well.

So, I started out to study FAR a few months back and some things came up with work and kids, so the material was set aside for several weeks. I then picked it back up and started where I left off and then had some health issues – basically diagnosed with a fibrosarcoma (cancer) in my thigh that was surgically removed and then had skin graft (reconstructive surgery) and now going through physical therapy. With all of that said, the books were put down again until a couple of weeks ago. The test is scheduled for a week from tomorrow (8/30) and I don’t know a dang thing. Too much starting, stopping, starting, stopping.

Soo…my question to anyone that cares to respond is – I know without a doubt that this is not passable in my situation. There just isn’t any way. My first gut feeling is to just blow off taking it and reschedule it for the next window and hope that everything settles down so I can have some time to have some real quality study time and just start from the beginning on studying. OR, should I just take it, expecting to blow chunks on it, just to see it? I know the tests are swapped every window and I had two sections passed a few years back (AUD, BEC) and went into internal audit and decided I didn’t want to kill myself – so I’ve seen the exam format before. I know the tests have changed a little over the last few years; so maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to just go in and do my best guessing game.

I’m going to have to totally start over on studying and reschedule for the next window anyway. It’s just a matter of is it really worth the time to go in and take that on the 30th?

    What would you all do?

    Thank you all in advance!

I would think to reschedule if you really aren't that ready on it. Just thinking purely money wise, it's a lot cheaper to reschedule now then take the test, fail, and then have to get your NTS and schedule again

FAR- taken 8/11/16....now the wait begins
    AUD- scheduled 9/8/16
    BEC- scheduled 10/9/16
    REG-scheduled 12/10/16

Live a few years like most people won't, to live the rest of your life like most people can't.

I kind of agree with lblacker. If you had even a decent amount of material under your belt or if you couldn't reschedule it to next window b/c of your NTS expiring, I might say just take it to prepare yourself and see how awful it is. But given your situation, I'd probably save myself the money and reschedule it. I will be right there with you taking FAR next window! Good luck with your studies and all of your other stuff going on!

Ahhh…..thank you both – I failed to mention that my NTS runs out on 9/03. 🙁 Lesson learned. I applied back in March, thinking I'd be sitting for the exam in May and then everything blew up with the work, kids, health issues.

I say go for the ‘Hail Mary'… 1) you are going to lose it anyway; 2) you will gain experience in how the material is tested; and 3) you might get lucky and pass.

ETA: study your butt off until then … I got a 70 studying for 12 days and I am dumb, lol.

ah @sdollen64 – that changes the response a little bit then. If you are going to lose it anyway and will have to pay another testing fee for next window just take it like @malotu said. If you're going to lose the money anyway, might as well get SOMETHING out of it, right? You might or might not pass but at least you will have seen what you have coming for you the next time you really take it. I would study as much as you can until the exam, take it, and try to remain calm because it WILL suck. Just remember that this is a trial run! Good luck!

i took far rather than let my NTS expire and without any real prep for it and got a lucky pass. i say go for it. i think two things worked in my favor: i had no stress during the exam and i was lucky there were a lot of easier questions that i knew. study what you can till your test date and then swagger in there like you have nothing to lose. finish the exam and see where it takes you!
good luck! best wishes for your health. take care!

Thank you all for your responses. Great advice and I'm going to cram as much as I am physically able until next Monday night – then, as monikernc suggested, “swagger” in there. Definitely won't have the stress level since my expectations will be extremely low 😉

One thing about having a health issue when you're trying to study for these exams, it puts everything into perspective. My teenage son came in the other evening and asked how studying was going. I gave him the bleak outlook and his response was “well, it isn't like you'll die if you don't pass, right??” Haa. He DOES have a point. 🙂

Thanks again for the advice. Y'all have a great evening 🙂

@sdollen64 I agree. Take it. I was very unprepared for AUD, only about halfway through Becker. My NTS was expiring. I almost did not go because I did not want to waste my time. I ended up talking myself into going to take the exam just to get experience for the next time. I passed with a 78. Miracles happen everyday. Best of luck to you!!
