I have 130 hours from my Bachelor’s in Accounting. Which route to go first? Any thoughts are much appreciated?

I just finished up taking 14 credit hours through ivy tech online format while studying, which got me to the 150. Not having to shoot for a high grade in those classes was key for me, just doing enough to get the credits allowed me to split my free time between doing the school work and studying for BEC. I am glad I got that out of the way because now I can put my full attention toward the exams.

Thanks Seajeigh, did you have to work full time as well? I do.

My full time job does not start until September so I was fortunate in that regard. I was working 25-30 hours per week, so that gave me a little more flexibility.

    Good Luck!

I need 30 hours to reach 150, but I'm sitting for the exams first and knock these exams out! Then I'll take classes to full the 150. But thats just me. I'm on my way to a CPA!

@jcviray, good move! I sat for the exams first and took the remaining classes later. It took about 5-6 months to take all classes (online) since I worked full-time. It is important to knock the exams first. However, it all depends on your state. Some states may not allow people to sit in for the exams unless you have 150 credits. Good luck.

It's up to you decide, but I will tell you this- I just had an interview on Wednesday with a top 10 public firm. Not big 4, but up there on the list. I was told flat out by the senior, manager, and partner who interviewed me that they want their associates to have the 150 hours before even being hired.

I still might get the job because I showed that I had a plan in mind to make it happen ASAP, but I'm crossing my fingers and praying at this point.

With that in mind, you're 7 community college courses away from having your hours. Depending on your need for money and time management abilities, you could take a couple courses in fall, a couple easy winter break courses, then a couple in the spring and be done with required education forever. I have a feeling that people interviewing with the extra credits are going to box me out, but hopefully they are hiring enough associates for me to land a spot.
