Take BEC or retake FAR?

    Hi all,

So I took my first CPA section last month (FAR) and failed. I’m currently studying for REG which I plan to take in a few weeks towards the beginning of December, after which I plan to take another section during the first week of January. I was wondering if it would be better to retake FAR or to go ahead and take BEC.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

I usually would like to stick with retake but I can't take FAR or audit in the same test window so I move on to BEC as after reform of the cpa exam, BEC will become more difficult. I am thinking to take FAR and audit both again in Jan but highly not sure it's doable or not. I just can't stand that I was too close to both of them and I didn't get both of them done as I should have.

@unnnnfaiirrrr But the exam changes won't go into effect until April, so that doesn't really affect whether I should take BEC or retake FAR

yea, you right, it won't affect. It really depends on which one suits you the best. Your study style. I personally prefer study retake. Sounds awful though.

LOL. Pardon the short post, but I just was lazy. What it means to say that taking BEC now beats taking FAR with 2 extra sims AND shorter MCQ testlets.

I'd rather have the certainty of being able to pass BEC now, when it's relatively SIMPLER than worry about 2 extra sims in FAR under the new format.

@hasy But are those FAR part of the 2017 changes? Because those take effect starting in April, not January. Or are those changes that you're talking about specific to FAR and do effective as of January?

The changes I mentioned to FAR are effective April, not January. Pardon the confusion. I just believe that BEC is MORE of a doable conquest with your schedule. I've taken REG and have failed it before but chose to move on to AUD due to the time constraint.

Assuming you finish REG in December (like me!) hopefully, you have about a monthish to go over BEC and take it early January. When you're done with that, you have until the end of the window to complete FAR. I gave myself about 8 weeks (that includes 2 business trips and 1 trip to vegas) for my FAR retake. Plan accordingly.

@hasy Gotcha, okay yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Thanks for your help!
