Switch material?

My Roger subscription is set to expire 4/22. I purchased it before they included “access until you pass” so I can pay for the unlimited access, but I wonder if it would be good to switch gears and jump to Ninja. I do like Roger, but I’ve only passed REG (some difficulty grasping, some my personal distractions) and I’m curious if switching would help me grasp what I struggle (and am burnt out on) with or if it would more likely cause confusion.

Those who have switched, or supplemented, how did it help or hurt?

    TIA

@TCBS I faced this with Becker. Becker was expiring, and it cost some $ to extend for a few more months. At that point in time, I only had one section left to pass, and I was supplementing Becker with Ninja products. Still, I went ahead and extended Becker for the $ and used it through to the end.
I do believe that Ninja will suffice for you, but – if you've gotten comfortable with Roger – it could be worth paying a little money to keep it as your primary material. Keep supporting a good cause.

Best of luck in the duration of your CPA exam journey!

I’m in your boat too! My Roger expires 4/04.

I will tell you that I’d keep Roger for BEC and AUD. I passed those sections the first try. His material is thorough for those. My friend works for Deloitte and couldn’t pass AUD using Becker. She used Roger for that one and got a 91. For FAR – maybe supplement if you have to. I can’t seem to get a PASS and I’m thinking of doing Ninja too.

    Best of luck!

FAR: 65 (still drying my tears) 2nd attempt: 7/2016
BEC: 81 5/2016 (WOO FIRST PASS!)
    REG: 5/2016
    AUD: 8/2016

@Go.For.Broke – I have seen many people post how they use Ninja as a supplement to Becker. I am just beginning my REG retake with Becker and am looking for some advice on an overall strategy supplementing Ninja with Becker. What approach did you take that you can share?

    Thank you!

I've missed BEC twice, 69 then 67, and missed AUD with a 70. My FAR was 62 but I'm testing next Thursday so I'm going to finish with Roger this time but grab Ninja if I don't pass. I find BEC to be the hardest for me so I may supplement Ninja for it then. I'm taking it last this time lol!

Thanks for your input! It's so hard to know what will work. I know often it takes actually trying something new to see if it will work but it's harder at a cost. I may get the extension AND supplement.

    REG – 74, 76
    FAR – 62, retest 4/4
    BEC – 69, 67, retest 6/7
    AUD – 70, retest 5/2

I agree. BEC is weird! It’s my last section and it definitely is hard. Everybody speaks about IT and COSO so I’m concentrating on that. I’m taking it with ROGER and doing MCQ from NINJA on 4/13.

    Study Material:
    GLEIM
    BEC - FEB/2012
    AUD - FEB/2012
    FAR - JULY/2012
    REG - JULY/2012

@TC85 I purchased Roger CPA review years ago and didn't find it helpful for my personal learning style. I had success passing AUD with Becker but then that expired too and I'm now using Gleim which is much more comprehensive but has helped me pass BEC and AUD in the past. If you're sticking with Roger, then I would highly recommend that you supplement with NINJA or another test bank.

I like Roger and it's helped me grasped a lot with my learning style (Im also quick to become distracted and have reading comprehension issues) so he helped tremendously. I think I've almost become too familiar in the sense that the extra info/explanations that I need to understand, or that second viewpoint in a sense, isn't there. I think I'm going to go for Ninja and see if that helps. I've got a lot of Roger's material for later if I need to revisit but hopefully Ninja will push me over. Thanks everyone!

    REG – 74, 76
    FAR – 62, retest 4/4
    BEC – 69, 67, retest 6/7
    AUD – 70, retest 5/2

@Eric-this is what I did for FAR, but it could work for REG as well. I jumped right into Ninja MCQ and went through every single question on my first pass through. This gave me a really good idea of what I do or don't know. The second time around i used Becker primary for the book and notes, and SIMS. Toward the end I did random progress tests in Becker because I have seen Ninja MCQ so many times it was counterproductive. For Ninja MCQ, I did them all once, then I did the ones that were “missed since last time seen” then I did sets of random MCQs mixed with certain sections. Ninja SIMS for REG are also pretty good, so I would use some of those. I also re-wrote all my old notes form the first time, including flashcards, into a new notebook and as I did that I also went through the Becker book and made more notes. The last few days i did nothing but SIMS, Skills Practice in Becker and wrote notes in my own words. I went from 69 to 81. I also think there is a REG thread floating around somewhere that lines up the blueprint to Becker SIMS-that approach has worked for a lot of people, including myself for FAR, so I highly recommend it.

@anyatver – Thank you for sharing your study methods – I have about 6 1/2 weeks before my retake and was only 2 points off from REG on my first attempt. I am trying not to change my study method too drastically but will utilize Ninja now similar to how you did. That is an amazing increase on FAR – congrats!

@Eric-good luck! 6 weeks is how long I took for my FAR re-take-you have plenty of time to button everything down and pass-good luck!
