Studying Full-time? Where?

I have committed to study full time until December hoping I can put this behind me. I can’t study at my office because people drop by to talk when they see my car. The local coffee shop is out, for people stopping by to talk. My grown children are home from college (not working :-/ ) so I am getting annoyed studying at home constantly washing dishes.

    So, where do you study?

I studied at the local college library (I wasn't a student there) and used ear plugs. That always worked for me.

College libraries or other study areas are great, especially during the summer when there's fewer kids around so they're usually quieter. I often was able to find at colleges non-library study rooms that were even quieter and less disturbed than the library.

Alternatively, regular libraries often have a quiet floor that can work well for studying. You won't be as likely to be surrounded by people who are studying, but it's still likely to be a peaceful environment.

For the office, is there anywhere you could park your car a block or so away and walk to the office? If you're in an area that has some form of public parking not too far away, it could allow you to use your quiet office to study, without having anyone know you're at the office. (Or drive one of your adult kids' cars so that it's a vehicle no one recognizes, unless the presence of a vehicle at all would prompt visitors…)

An adult education center (GED-study-place) might be another option, if they have study rooms that you'd be allowed to sit in and use.

Invest in some good headphones and listen to classical music (or whatever instrumental music you choose).

On the headphone topic – I have gotten everyone around me addicted to these. They are cheap, durable and block out Scandal from the other room.

I have a pair of audio technica that was $65 on slickdeals. As much I dislike it, I've moved my studying from the university library to my work on the weekends, which means, I'm LITERALLY here 7 days a week. But it's worth it. I have the entire floor to myself. A little creepy, but the security guard patrols every few hours.

I go to the local town library or local college library as others have stated. And +1 on the ear plugs/headphones.

tncincy – set some serious boundaries. kids home from college need to clean up after themselves AND take on some chores that will allow you to study. or the cable tv gets turned off.
hang a do not disturb sign at the office with a no exceptions policy
finally, if you must give yourself permission to assert your right to study i suggest you do so immediately and then call a family and coworker meeting ASAP to declare your new rules and expectations.
if you want to pass eliminate the diversions, buckle down and get it done. if there are dishes in the sink write a name on a note and assign them to someone else. no discussion. otherwise buy paper plates and cups and teach them to take out the garbage.
now, start studying like you mean it. i know you are tempted to post a response right now but wouldn't that time be better used to study?

Is it possible to park your car down the street and walk to your office? I know a CPA firm in a small town that park their cars in a neighboring parking lot on Fridays to prevent drop ins. This way they can get work done one day with little disturbance.

We have an office in our house and I study at it.

the biggest issue I've had is the HS age kids hogging the band width streaming movies or gaming while I'm trying to study. I go upstairs and ask if they are using the internet?! they get off and I can study. I really have the support of my family and couldn't be as far as I am without it.

can you get your family on board a bit more?

Soft ear plugs were a game changer for me.
