Hello everyone! I am looking for advice on what classes are crucial for passing the CPA exam in 2018-2019 per new California requirements.

I need seven more core accounting classes and six more core business classes before sitting for the exam. I have a BA in English with only two basic accounting classes under my belt and three business classes. I work in finance and have been the liaison between my private equity company and our CPA for four years. I plan on taking four accredited Becker courses through UCLA Extension each quarter that I plan on taking the correlating exam. Also, I have a 7-year-old and a 2 year-old and am planning on conceiving to have a baby in winter 2018 (which explains my class strategy below).

This is my education plan through UCLA Extension (quarter units):

    SP16 – Intermediate Accounting A & Business Class

    SU16 – Intermediate Accounting B & Business Class

    FA16 – Intermediate Accounting C & Business Class

    WI17 – Accounting Class ? & Business Class

    SP17 – Accounting Class ? & Business Class

    SU17 – Accounting Class ?

    FA17 – Business Class

    WI18 – Accounting Class?

    SP18 – Becker Review & take BEC

    SU18 – Becker Review & take FAR

    FA18 – Becker Review & take REG

    WI18 – Becker Review & take AUD

What seven accounting classes are best for exam prep?

Does this schedule seem feasible for passing the exam given my other personal factors?

    Thanks for any guidance!!

Definitely take a Financial Accounting, Advanced Financial Accounting, Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting, Tax Accounting, and Auditing. Those classes are usually the core of most universities accounting programs.

    Far - 77!!!!!
    Bec - 70 Retake April 2016
    Reg - TBD
    Aud - TBD

I was going to try to avoid Advanced Accounting if at all possible…?

    UCLA Extension has Intermediate Accounting A, B, & C

Also thinking I should take Federal Income Taxation, Managerial Accounting, Financial Auditing along with each Becker Review Course.

Thanks for the input–and hope you did well on your BEC Exam!

Government and NFP will give you the most bang for your buck considering they're a huge part of the most difficult exam.

Anything else shouldn't be too difficult to learn from a good CPA review.

    BEC - 78 (August 2015)
    FAR - 80 (November 2015)
AUD - 73, 67. (Ok I gotta confess I was even more lazy this time around)
    REG - August 27th, 2016

^^^^ Govt and NFP for sure. But advanced accounting can definitely help, too.

    B | 62, 78
    A | 73, 67, 79
    R | 82
    F | 59, 59, Waiting

    Ethics | 93
