    I feel like I’ve been under a rock somewhere. All of this info, sounds like jibberish. Any tips on how to retain this stuff?

    Secured & unsecured bonds

    bond interest

    private debt

    public debt

    prime rate

    premium & common stocks

    discount

    annuities

    I'm tired of operating in fear and mediocrity. It's time to try. It's time to do. It's time to go.

    Take those topics slow. They are heavily tested on the exam. What helped me a lot was doing the journal entries. Do them. You'll thank yourself later. When you understand the JEs, you will be good to go……..at least for me it was.

    All the titles that you speak of (premium, discount, etc) are exactly what the names says. For instance, you have a discount when you sell the bond below face value and premium will arise for selling above face value. Then the market rate is higher than the coupon(face) rate, you will have a discount. When the market rate is lower than the coupon(face) rate, you will have a premium. I can tell you though it takes some practice. Just put time into and you'll get it. Also, it may not be a bad idea to skip that topic and come back at the end…….or at least it worked for me. Good luck

    Thank you so much!

    Honestly, I wasn't expecting these topics to present in BEC. I thought I'd have some time before I saw them on FAR. Your feedback is amazing and I appreciate it. I'll take it slow.

    BEC looks at those topics from more of a finance rather than accounting perspective. Some, like the bonds will have overlap from FAR. For BEC collect the calculations and formulas and make sure you understand the concept as it applies for BEC. keep in mind that the phrase “a mile wide and an inch deep” really applies to this exam. Search up top for bec formulas as there have been lists posted by others. Also look through the bec study group thread for this and prior quarters, a lot gets posted on the trouble areas. Some people get through it all in 4 weeks, others take longer. You will find your rhythm. Good luck!
