ST and LT disability – does your firm or company offer any?

Up until now, I have worked at large public companies (not public accounting) that offered ST and LT disability (without having to fill out a silly eligibility form) that the COMPANY paid for. For example with the ST, they would offer us 60% of our salary. We could top it up to 100% of our salary if we paid for the difference in premiums out of our checks.

Just went through benefit enrollment at my current public ACCOUNTING firm and it doesn’t appear they offer either without filling out said silly eligibility form

I mean, I understand we aren’t working in a factory (one company was manufacturing so they must have provided because they had factory workers) but any one of us could be a car accident causing us to miss work for a long period of time. Thus FMLA would kick in and we would get 60% of our salary (unless we bought up to 100%).

Thats a requirement of the insurance co, not the employer. Meaning the same employer could have chosen another insurance provider that didn't require the form but for whatever reason (likely cost) chose an insuror or a specific policy type that does require the form.

    Thanks, mla!

Anyone else? Guess I'm just trying to figure out if I was spoiled at my first three jobs where they provided some employer paid ST disability…

My company is not a B4 but it offers paid ST disability as well as LT disability if elected by the employees, where the employees pay a portion of the premium periodically. They also offer a pension plan. When looking around, I do not see many companies offering good benefits any longer.
