Hey Guys,

Was wondering if anyone here has a side job or does some side work probably during the slow season. I tried doing bookkeeping on the side but saw that obtaining clients that wanted to pay decent rates were not easy to find. It was also time consuming and expensive between the travel, time, and few meals that spent money on that led to no work. Thought about doing Tax Returns on the side for my own clients but I could only do 9 max so I don’t e-file. I don’t have that credential. I had a PTIN for 2013 and 2014 but chose to suspend it for 2015 Returns.

Just wanted to know if you guys had something on the side, possibly not accounting related.

Also maybe any tips or ideas on finding said side work would be welcome as well.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who ponders this subject.

I do academic tutoring, through a few different sites. It definitely helps to live somewhere where there are a lot of colleges/universities. Most weeks, I will pick up about 4-6 hours.

JayManBro, just a note – you need a PTIN regardless of how many returns you prepare, for as long as you're receiving any form of compensation for it. It can be one return, can be one schedule, but you still need a PTIN.

@chiguy4 – I never thought about tutoring but thinking about academics make me uneasy. I'm so done with that.

@ Son – I know. I said I didn't have what's necessary for E-filing. I had the PTIN but wasn't using it, that's why I suspended it.

I might be misreading your initial post, but I've had the impression that you prepared tax returns for 2015 AFTER you've suspended your PTIN. If that's the case, you needed a valid PTIN – whether you were e-Filing them or not.

must be professional deformation but I am totally reading this as “I've filed returns in 2015. As to PTIN, I had it in 2013 and 2014 but decided to suspend it for 2015” 🙂
