Should I have taken this practice exam?!

Honestly, I’m not sure how to feel about this. I have studied my behind off and I feel like a 70% is crappy and I have a lot more studying to do. However, I’m not quite sure if this is really indicative of what I would get on the actual exam? I thought today would be a “free” day to enjoy as a mother. However, I think I’ll be right here in front of this computer trying to hammer out more MCQs. Ugh! Has anyone else taken the practice exam?

I'm tired of operating in fear and mediocrity. It's time to try. It's time to do. It's time to go.

I would take one practice test a week before and another the day before. In the two times I passed tests my practice test scores were as follows:

    Week before audit: 62
    Day before audit: 78

    Week before BEC 72
    Day before BEC: 81

I don't think the actual exam is as difficult as the practice exams (again, in MY experience). Everyone studies differently, but in my opinion – skip mothers day this year and enjoy them for the rest of your life as “Mom, CPA”

It is not possible to get exact estimate of exam score based on test score. However, as a general rule you should add 5-10 points to your practice test score. I only managed to get through one practice test and scored 82. But It was Ninja CPA not Becker.

In my opinion, practice tests are a waste of time. There is very little learning involved in doing MCQ without instant feedback. The 3 hours you take with the practice exam could be used doing MCQ.

Just found this thread. Do you guys really thinking taking a practice exam is a waste of time? I just finished redoing the Becker SIMS for REG today. I have been doing 1-2 sets of 30 MCQ per day. Should I continue on and do MCQ and Ninja SIMS until my exam next week or should I take 1-2 days out and try the practice exams? I took the practice once my first round and I dont know if it really helped. Some of the questions on it were directly pulled from the Homework.

I appreciate any feedback. Not sure if it is because its a retake but I am super worried. I can't imagine having to take it a 3rd time.

Waste of time. As mentioned above, you don't get the answers until after the exam, so it's not good for learning. Getting immediate feedback after doing a question or SIM is much more effective.

I don't know about retakes but for first tries, you can predict your actual score based on your Ninja average & trending score.

From a learning perspective, I would agree that you probably don't actually learn anything by taking the practice exam. However, I do feel like taking the practice exam for FAR helped me emotionally prepare for the exam. Seeing that I did well on the practice exam helped relieve quite a bit of stress and anxiety, even though I knew it wasn't an actual way to determine my score. Sitting there for 4 hours straight without any immediate feedback or substantial breaks helped me determine how I would feel during the actual exam. It also helped me gauge what my weak areas were.

It's really up to you and what you find more important. If you've taken quite a few sections already and feel like you need as many MCQs as possible, then skip the practice exam. If you think it could help you in any way or make you feel more comfortable going into the actual exam, then take it.

As mentioned above, immediate feedback is a better learning tool for studying purposes. However, some people have used the practice exams as a test drive for exam day in terms of getting your brain and self in shape to sit through 3-4 hours of MCQs and Sims, especially without a break. If you're not used to sitting and focusing for long periods like that, I'd maybe take one just to get the feel of it, especially if this is your first exam. Otherwise, MCQs with immediate feedback – lots and lots and lots of MCQs – in the days leading up to game day. That was my strategy, anyway. 🙂

I find that the adrenaline on test day will get me through the 4 hours.
