Sat for BEC today….some surprises

So I just got back from Prometric. I would say I would be surprised if I failed. I felt fairly good after the exam, much better than FAR, but not as good as REG. I would also say I did not feel as “drained” as I usually feel after a CPA exam. I think this had to do with the short sentence questions and not the choice of 4 paragraph-length answers like there was for FAR. The thing that surprised me the most was the amount of questions that *did not* require a calculator. It was very, very conceptual. There was one topic that was heavily tested and the rest were pretty much the breakdown Becker mentions.

The first testlet was easy to medium, some questions were ridiculously easy. The 2nd testlet was harder, and the third was about the same as the second. I am very happy I am coming into my accounting career with an MBA. It defiantly helped me with the miscellaneousness of the exam. I would say overall the exam was very tricky. You know how there is always an answer to a question that pops out because it appears the answer…like if you didn’t know anything you would pick that answer. Well, this exam made *that* the correct answer after a bunch of calculations. I had to do 5 steps to get to a round number. I even triple checked.

My opinion about the writing section is that the topics are pretty much out of left field, so it is really a test of writing skill rather than pretending you know something about some obscure topic. The memo assignment questions were pretty short, so even if the topic was obscure, you could add in what you like.

I studied on and off since October, and I took it up a notch for the last two weeks. Even if I had studied harder, I doubt I would have done better…would have needed a philosophy degree to score better perhaps.

Good luck to those taking BEC the rest of the week!

Good to hear! I am taking BEC on Thursday and for the life of me I can't remember all the darn formulas and calculations so I would be very happy with a testlet that you describe!!!

I would not want to mention IT exclusively, since we can’t, but I will say that will all of the questions, either the answer was fairly obvious, needed some narrowing down, or the question was so short, or so obscure, I had no idea what they were trying to ask. Studying your butt off would work for REG or FAR, but not for this exam. Had I studied another week, it would have made no difference. It was almost like an AUD exam where you had to read the question a few times just to feel out an answer.

My average was high 60s and trending was 74. I would not read much into my scores, especially trending because I was choosing “new” or “hard” questing in my weak areas for the last week or two.

When I passed FAR, my average was in the 50s and trending was in the 60s, and I ended up with 80.

wow. You give me hope. I am taking it on Friday 8 am. I'm trending low to mid 60s but I still have two days to study. Would you recommend hitting more MCQ or simply study subjects deeply and memorization? It looks like you'll be done with the CPA stuff for good. I guess there is light at the end of the tunnel

Nessie – This is how I felt with BEC test. Other than some random questions, I found questions fairly simple and conceptual. I was confident getting out of the exam and passed with a good margin. As a matter of fact it was the only exam that I knew I passed 100%.It is most likely you passed it and done with the exam! It will be a long wait until next Friday. Good luck and hope I will done too!

Materials: Wiley book + Ninja MCQ

I took BEC 12/5 and sounds like I had a pretty similar test to you. I had a question repeat 2x as well. I was thrilled! Hoping for my first pass! 🙂
