Has anyone else basically sacrificed everything to pass these exams? For example, friendships, family time, happiness, health, etc. These exams have been pretty brutal for me. The more sacrifices I make the more likely it is I will pass and be done with this crap. But, man this process is Tough. Sorry if it sounds like I am complaining, but I’m sure there are others out there who feel the same. I’ll keep Grinding through the material, but this process is demoralizing and depressing! Goodluck to everyone and hope everyone gets their needed passes to be DONE!!!

I passed the exams when I was 40. Most of my friends from school aged 22-40 have not passed them all and some haven't passed any. I try not to think about it. There is definite discrimination at firms so private industry is easier to get into.

I pass for a kid as well. The running helps!

    REG - 74, 92
    BEC - 83

    Nice to read this thread.

I am a runner and sacrificed the weekend long run first and then the week day 6 mile run.Just do some biking once a week. It is really a big deal for runners .

Stopped spending productive time with my kids – its very tough. One is in 9th grade and the little one is in 3rd grade. Really missed the fun times with my little princess. My son doesn't care but by daughter misses me a lot.

I am too old to do CPA. I am going to be 45 soon. Also I am not into accounting. I work in EPM – Enterprise Performance Management . Out of my personal interest started and didn't realized it will take my whole life last 16 months.Getting the accounting and management semester credits was not that stressful. Did it online and local community college.

There is a proverb in my language – When you catch a tiger by tail then you can't let it go or otherwise it is going to hurt you. So my story is I caught the tiger by tail and still don't know how to come out of it..hahaha..

I took REG 2nd attempt on Feb 13th . After the exam I felt totally crushed and disappointed. My BEC credit expires on 02/28/2017.The sad part is you can't share it at home since no one wants to hear the exam experience . So my ventilation is this forum. I know people are super cool and always supportive and motivating. I am kinda of addicted to reading this forum when ever I have free time.I know CPA is tough. Also it is fun. Do it guys 🙂

@Track55 – yeah, exercise and diet and staying away from excess sunlight, and drugs – and good old fashioned genes – will keep someone looking younger. I have no children and never will I don't think, so that's another reason why I don't look worn out like most 40+ year olds do. It's nice you still come on here even though you passed awhile ago.

@esenthil – you can make up the time with your kids later, you and they have many many years of life left to live. That's interesting about your career background and doing the CPA. I haven't met anyone with a resume as colorful as my own, as far as all the stuff I've done since undergrad (I finished in 2000, that's right, Class of Y2K.) Most prospective employers have not liked my resume, but – my longest-running job lasted a decade. It was during the last 4-5 years of that job that I began taking accounting classes and eventually completed a second degree.
Your career sounds really interesting, and you don't need a CPA license for it I wouldn't imagine. My career path is internal audit, and most are CIA but not CPA. Unlike 90 percent or more of people who take these exams, I am not in public accounting and don't want to be. It wouldn't be a decent fit for me. Hopefully, I have what it takes to pass these exams and can have a better career after getting a CPA license. I'm kind of addicted to this forum as well, I need to stop it until I pass a couple sections or it is going to result in another failure. But yeah, I am glad I found this forum too, I haven't really vented much lately but I did when I first came here 6-7 months ago when I first began the process. I was on Reddit briefly before coming here; Reddit is a horrible forum, although they do have a lot of topics that are good – it's just that the people on there are mostly cruel jerks and on here, there don't seem to be any currently. We've got some immature kids who post from time to time but I am really impressed at the quality of posts on here compared to any other forum I've tried (and eventually quit) in the past. Eventually this will all be behind you and you'll have your license, so don't worry. I know the feeling though… before I started taking these exams, everyone around me said “You're gonna pass them all on the first try, you're really smart, you're gonna be done really fast, don't underestimate yourself.” I hate to say this but I knew they were wrong and that it would take more time. This exam is just not ‘simple' or simplistic, for the vast majority of us who take it.

@crazyleon – Thank you for the wonderful reply. I need to agree with you. This forum is super matured and cool. I had experiences before in some developer forums for my work what I do. It will be totally technical and sometimes irritating.

This forum is the best .People are nice and matured. Provide good support and motivation to others.

You will do it and achieve all your dreams. Just be focused and don't get diverted. All the best 🙂

@crazyleon I am well into my 50s and just got my license last month (Jan 2017). I had never intended to do so but realized it was going to be harder to compete in the workplace. Years of experience can be overcome with “we want a CPA”. Many accountants of my age didn't go the public route and now are facing this. I decided to put things on hold and get it done. I found out God had built me better than I thought, and with a supportive family I finished it.

@taskr – I feel it is little too much scoring in 90's and in late 80's. This is pure determination and hard work. Great job and hats off to you 🙂

@esenthil Honestly, with this exam I just had to aim as high as possible. I couldn't even begin to guess the perfect amount of study. I was always stressed until my scores came in.

Good to see many 40s and 50s here. I will be 45 soon. I am working in private industry for a long time. I have a stable accounting career, but without CPA or public accounting, it is hard to move up even in industry. Also, I don't like to work with experienced accountants who absolutely have no desire to pursue advanced degree or credentials. That's why I did CPA. And I started MST this January and just joined BAP in my school. It is never too late.

Thanks everybody for your replies – some people say that age is just a state of mind. Being older and wiser than the 20-somethings, I wish I could pass these exams more quickly but, I don't really think about this too much. I wonder how old the oldest CPA exam candidate was when they passed the exams. The thing is, you need a reason to pass them, and for most of us, that's related to a career. If you're 60, you're probably thinking about retirement! But, there are people who do things for personal fulfillment, regardless of age.
