With my resume I currently list my education and certifications. I passed the series 65 investment exam so I just put “FINRA series 65 Investment Law Exam” and then the month/year I passed.

if I pass a section of the cpa exam how should I format it on my resume? still waiting for my aud score praying that I pass but if I pass audit do I format it this way “Audit and Attestation” October 2016 ?

I'd put something along the lines of –

CPA Exam Candidate – Actively pursuing exams (X of 4 sections passed).

You don't need to go into detail of which section you passed and when – if you're applying to a public accounting firm that information will naturally come up in the course of the interview, if you're applying to somewhere other than a public accounting firm – they might not know or even care which section you passed (they'd just be happy knowing that you're pursuing and on your way to a CPA! 🙂 )

edit: If you really want to put a date just put 2016.

I wouldn't put CPA if you're applying for something else other than public. They don't give a damn about your CPA and if u put it in your resume, they will think 1) You're probably going to job hop 2) you won't be focusing 100% on your job because you're studying for the CPA. Its ruthless out there. They want to make sure you're giving them 110% when they pay you.

As accountingisfun stated, that's the appropriate treatment. It's really more of a talking point during interviews until you pass all your exams. Once you pass, you certainly want to put in on your resume as many top level accounting positions in public and industry will not even consider you without a CPA. It certainly helps marketability as well.

The problem is my gpa is low 3.1 compared to my peers and when I apply for jobs in public accounting I always get the rejection email. I have landed interviews in the past and said “I am currently studying for cpa etc” but never got the job. Also when I send my resume to associates to refer me the managers never get back with me.
