mimperat1ParticipantHello,
Can anyone give their experience between FAR and REG? I just passed FAR and REG is my last section but I feel like I am burnt out from how hard I studied for FAR. Is REG a little less difficult to study for?

hasyParticipantI don't mean to scare you. Studying for FAR was SO MUCH EASIER than this. FAR actually makes sense since you know, accounting is pretty logical.
But don't hate it. Don't be scared of SIMs. Do all of them. REG is a lot of memorization and random tricks. Just gotta expose yourself to all of it. REG is my last one too. Sighs. We can endure this together.

RyanParticipantStudying for REG makes me very happy I chose audit over tax in my career. Audit involves analytical ability and other higher brainpower thought processes.
Tax is just rote memorization that makes no sense. This is how it's done, memorize it and do not ask questions.November 28, 2016 at 7:26 pm #1329138
YolongeParticipantReg is my last one.
Just to say I when I do Reg, I miss Far..

Wanna_B_TXCPA2014ParticipantI have no problem being the “weird” one in this conversation in saying that I prefer the land of make believe, REG, over crushing absolute reality FAR. I have been in Operational and Corp acct roles since 04 and it took me 6 effn times to pass FAR and all I got was a 75. My Becker HW scores on average have been about ~10pts higher than FAR HW. Got my fingers crossed they throw me something I can hit on 12/5/16 so I can call it a career. I feel like I completely expensed my Perseverance Reserve

Pete E. RinoParticipantI just took FAR last month and I never felt so bad after taking an exam in my life. I passed thankfully. I too have left REG for last since I think it will be the easiest one for me. It is so much easier to study for REG than FAR in my opinion. FAR is just so much material that once you go onto one part you forget the other. REG, on the other hand, is kinda enjoyable when it comes to Individual taxation, partnerships, property tax, and some business law as well. Then I see everyone commenting how FAR is easier to study for, which baffles me. The only thing really hard in REG is R7 (secured transactions, bankruptcy, and commercial paper), estate tax (R4), and some of corporate + S corp from R3. I definitely found REG easier to study for. I went through it so much quicker than FAR. Just hang in there. Both of us are sick of studying but study hard and pass this and we are both done!

FAR makes sense…. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to remember which basis to use when it comes to devalued gifts (depending on whether on it's inherited or bought) and then you have to remember how wash sales comes into the question? >.<

AnonymousInactiveREG = Slightly less material but slightly more difficult
FAR = Slightly more material but slightly less difficultPersonally, I thought REG was easier, but I work in Tax, so a lot of it was information I was somewhat familiar with.
I'd say study time wise, they're both terrifying beasts. Best of luck. Study a lot and you can pass them both.

StilgoinParticipantI passed REG on the first try and tbh, I was expecting a higher grade. I will take FAR the 5th time in January. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. 😉
