REG Study Time?

    Hi All:

I am scheduled to take AUD 4/6 and am on track to finish all Becker sections by then with little less than a week to review. If I can pass AUD, my last remaining section would be REG, which I plan on taking at the end of this next window.

Here comes the life issue: I will be going out of town for business 5/15, and when I return, I will be moving to elsewhere within the same city.

My question would be if I began studying for REG right after I take my AUD exam, would I have enough time to study and be properly prepared for REG by 5/13, or should I wait until the end of the window even with all those things going on?

    Thanks for the advice!

    FAR - (8/20) 70, (10/28) 72, (2/22) 76
    REG - (6/8) 69...
    BEC - (11/18) 77
    AUD - (4/14) 72...

Do you have a tax background or did you do well in Tax in school? Normally, I'd say you should push REG till the end of May, but it may be really hard for you to keep up with studying when you will be moving in mid-May. If tax is a strong point for you, you could be prepared for 5/13, as that would give you 5 weeks to study. I knocked out REG in 7-8 weeks, but that was only doing about 10 hrs/week. I could have knocked it out in 5 had I studied more each week, but I also have a strong tax background. Good luck!

    BEC - 88 8/29/15
    REG - 82 11/14/15
    AUD - 83 1/8/16
    FAR - 80 2/29/16

I have a Forensic Accounting background (none of what we do really prepares us for any part of the exam).

I struggled with personal income tax, but did very well with partnership and corporate income tax. I do not have any prior knowledge or teachings of estate or gift taxation.

I'm a rather quick learner if I am able to put the time into studying. I currently work a 40 hour/week schedule, and typically study 2-3 hours a day. On the weekends, I am able to contribute a little more.

I do not see any issue with studying during the business trip. As a matter of fact, I might even be able to push the test to 5/18 in the morning. I just don't know if I would be fully prepared by then.

I think you would be pushing it, but as long as you are efficient with your time, I think you could pull it off with your schedule. I was able to do it in about 75 hrs, but I also skipped Corporate tax and Partnership (skipped lectures – not MCQ practice!). I struggled somewhat with personal income tax as well, but only because I don't work with it and it had been a while since I had taken it in college. I see you have Becker – one thing I did for Roger is I gave myself pretests on all of the topics (using his MCQ bank). If I scored higher than a 70, I skipped that chapter's lectures. That's one thing you could try doing to cut out some time. Another idea is to study with the tax forms – it makes it easier to remember what's a deduction vs credit etc if you see how it's on the form. I hope that helps!

212 hours flat for me to pass – I don't even do my own taxes

    FAR 72, 89
    BEC 80
    REG 90
    AUD 79

Lol well I certainly won't have 212 hours to put in. I'll be pushing for about 80, but that's very hard in only about 5 weeks.

I almost pulled off FAR in 3 weeks the first time, but I think working my first out of college job in a small company doing journal entries daily really helped me out. In the end, I needed to take it three times to pass.

I feel like AUD shouldn't be too much of an issue (currently doing fairly well on the MCQ's).

The only issue is if I will have enough time to pass REG given all the circumstances. Appreciate all the input!

In the end, I scheduled for 5/13. I will just need to really dedicate myself and not let the stress of waiting for the AUD score deter me from focusing on REG. Thanks guys!
