I think it depends on your background…I was an auditor for 3 years, and had 0 tax experience besides my one tax class in college, so as you could guess….REG was harder for me. What interests you more? I think it depends on the person. AUD I felt its conceptually challenging as there always seems like there are 2 right answers, its definitely less equations/problems and more conceptual understanding on assertions, testing of the different cycles, sampling etc…I dont know if this helped but 🙂 I used Becker for both and passed. I cant speak to other review material.

REG is easier if you're better at memorization. AUD is easier if you're a very logical thinker. I found AUD head and shoulders easier than REG but I got a lower score on AUD. A lot of people this past quarter complained about Roger's REG material but it was great when I sat for it. Roger's AUD section is fantastic and it seems most people agree on that within this site.

Like the others have said, it just depends on your background and what you are comfortable with. For me, I took 58 hours of Accounting in college. Of these, 24 were specific to tax and 3 were specific to audit, so I bet you can guess which was easier for me lol.

I used Becker on both, and it was very effective for each one. I got lazy/too busy on AUD, and I really think that is the only reason I didn't score as high. I think REG might have slightly more material, but neither is as much as FAR.

For me AUD. REG you just focus on tax portion and it is similar to FAR as it is also calculation based or formula related. Rogers is good for REG but i felt like for AUD rogers do not cover enough of important topics.

For most, not all, REG is harder.

However, if there is one section that I see people failing repeatedly, it is AUD.

Though my scores were almost identical on those sections, I absolutely blew the SIMS on AUD…not sure I missed a single MCQ (I'm serious)…the multiple choice carried me.

Yet if I have a specialty it would be tax…and I only got one point higher as I was missing mcqs left and right, but the research and SIMS saved me.

My point? You just never know!!

    Best of luck

I based mine on FAR, so whenever I pass FAR, AUD would automatically be the next one.

    Currently:
    Reg
    FAR
    AUD
    and last BEC

    FAR: 76
    REG: Currently studying
    AUD:
    BEC:

Really depends on your experience. I have a background in tax so for me, the REG material was more or less manageable (since it's mostly formulas and memorization) whereas I had near-zero audit experience so I struggled a bit when studying for AUD (especially since it's more theory and logic-based, which admittedly, I struggled with throughout growing up). Probably the most logical way of taking the exams though is to start with FAR and then move to AUD since there is a good amount of overlap and then tackle REG and BEC.
