[RANT] Why is CPA exam scheduling system so backward?

So I passed FAR today and was looking to schedule AUD for May. I am CA applicant and was not able to get the exam coupon via NASBA. Well looks like I have to pay CPA CA board $25 again for them to give me a new NTS notice for AUD. Sign the paper again, mail it to Sacramento and wait for them to approve it again!

This is long and tedious and very backward for country like USA. I am also a ICAEW certified accountant and that experience was wayyyyy better than the US.

Yeah, you have to reapply every time you fail. I just sent my re-ap on Friday and they already cashed my check, hopefully it is quick.

No I didn't fail. Just applying for a new section. I dont care much about the money since my firm is paying but just the tedious manual process is super annoying.

When you reapply you can choose all the sections you want to take and pay for them then… So, if you have only taken FAR, this time you can choose AUD,BEC, and REG for the same $25. You will have 9 months to sit

Interesting, I dont see the option on the form though. Anyway I can tell them to do that?

Once they receive your payment you will get an email asking what sections you want to sit for. The caveat is that you have to pay for all the exams you choose at the ame time.

did CA recently change that? i remember stupidly trying to use that $25 application fee for Audit, Reg and Far in August sometime… Took me forever to pass Aud so I was pressed to take Reg in January when I wasn't ready and Far was a waste.

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

Claudia408? Repping the South Bay! (San Jo, oh you know!)

Yes, the system is pretty backward and archaic. But that's the game and those are the rules. Unfortunately gotta play by them..

like MaLoTu said, once you submit your application fee, you have the option to choose more than 1 section. You probably just picked the FAR only back then. Once you pick the sections that you want to sit for, the board will transfer the information to NASBA and then you will get notified via email along with the payment coupon.

Club300 – East San Jo too! Mom and dad are still there but I've moved up to San Mateo. Although this place USED to be a nice place to live, but not at $1,000 a sq foot. Blaaaahhhhh!!

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8
