I am just about finished with all of the blaw stuff in Becker for REG and I am just curious, is the blaw stuff supposed to be relatively easy? I have been doing really well on all the homeworks and it makes me nervous that maybe Becker questions are just easy. What do you guys think?

It may just be that the material “clicks” with you…keep studying it…it's worth 40%-ish of your score.

@reallytired- sounds like you are doing great don't over think it! This was totally me with REG- I just “got it”- especially the B-law stuff…. it was such a nice relief after feeling like FAR was written in a completely different language. I think everyone finds different sections harder / easier. For me REG was definitely an “easier” section for me. I miss REG! 🙂 ha ha ha…. GOOD LUCK!

@mckan514w, I am on the same boat as you! I took FAR a few weeks ago and felt like it took FOREVER to learn something, but REG has been much easier and I have almost… enjoyed studying for it! Thank you for the advice, I will stop letting it make me nervous 🙂

I actually enjoyed studying for REG, made me what to look at my taxes and ensure they were correct etc. I tried to make everything in REG relate to me in real life somehow, so it was easier to learn and it didn't feel tedious. I think that is why I got my best grade in REG.

@trele6, I actually agree with you! Even though it has been harder for me than blaw, it has been fun learning all the tax stuff because I actually feel like I could do personal tax returns now. I have also tried remembering it all so it can help me next year when I file! You did awesome on REG, I am jealous! Did you pass all of them on your first try? Did you use only Becker?

@reallytired, I am waiting on my audit grade on Tuesday, if I pass I will have passed all four on the first try. I will add a disclaimer that I am not freshly out of school either. I have been in industry for 13 years and just now decided to get my CPA. I think a lot of my real world experience helped in FAR and BEC. I've never worked in audit so little help there or tax.

I used only Becker also, no supplemental material just real life experiences.

I studied for 10 weeks on REG, 12 on FAR, 6 for BEC and 6 for AUD.

@ realytired, Olinto does a great job teaching B-Law and keeping it interesting. I think we all are able to decompress a bit during the B-Law portion.

@trele6 Wow that is really impressive, congrats on doing this after you've been out of school! I graduated with my MAcc beginning of May and started studying a week later so I was fresh out.

I always love hearing that people passed using Becker alone because that is the boat I am currently in. My fingers are crossed for you for good news Tuesday!!

@bhunt815, I could not agree more. I actually do enjoy Tim, but Peter is fun and makes me laugh while helping me actually retain the info. I have always loved his lectures. And blaw is so refreshing to learn after doing FAR for 2.5 months and then tax for 3 weeks!

And I believe he is adding Ethics into the 40% calculation because Ethics is supposed to be 20% and blaw is 20% right?

I'm working through the last section before the BLAW and Ethincs stuff starts and I gotta say this is kind of reassuring to see. Maybe there is light at the end of these 200 MC questions I'm stuck doing haha. Listening to the lectures I felt like everything made a lot of sense when it was being explained unlike a lot of the other items throughout the CPA journey where I really had to buckle down after the lecture and look everything over before it finally clicked.

It actually took me a while to figure out all the minutia of the Blaw stuff…

Once I took my exam, I was SUPER happy that I took the time to retain it. I felt that the 40% was a “heavy” 40% haha
