This forum should shed a positive vibe on the industry and be an ambassador to the credential.

Some people like what they do for a living – including tons of people in public accounting as well as industry.

I’m puzzled when people come to an industry’s forum to complain about it.

@skynet is the tail them walking away b/c they assume you're studying? lol Or are they telling you a tale like they know what an amoritization schedule is or what passive activity loss rules are?

I'm not going to say the Exam has ruined my life, but I am pretty miserable. Studying for these exams is ridiculous if you truly want to pass. Make sacrifices and study your *ss off for a better future!

Wanna_B_TXCPA2014 – Women can't resist me when I'm talking about the Schedule C. Don't even get me started with the Depreciation Methods. They often will give me gifts by throwing drink, shoes, bottles, and etc at me as a token of their appreciation.

I will make the world a better place when I become Supreme Ruler and everyone will abide by GAAP rules. The “ASC” standards will be the new Constitution.

@skynet do you make them aware that only $25 of those “business gifts” are deductible? You don't want to bring unnecessary attention to the Pole proprietors of a cash basis bidniss

I take no issue with the venting, the exam is stressful and you're not likely to find people struggling with it in real life. BUT, I think a lot of people have unrealistic expectations, from thinking they'll take each exam only once (hats off to those who do! You're exceptions not the rule at least here) to thinking once they pass the 4th part employers will be begging them to accept a six figure salary. Truth is the exam process is tedious and sometimes repetitive, it's hard and exhausting, and it doesn't make you special in the eyes of the employees who are filling jobs with CPA's. It's an expensive and hard to obtain tool that can either collect dust or be used to make a spectacular career.

Eh, this time last year when I was going through the process, I did think some people went overboard on the negativity. I also don't feel sorry for people when either A. they are in a bind because they procrastinated and all of a sudden want to be exam ready in a week, or B. they wonder why they are having such a hard time, when they don't even know why they want the CPA – they are just doing it because someone tells them to. But, reading about other's struggles helped me through my own because I realized that someone always had it worse than I did. It also gave me an appreciation for the process of becoming a CPA. Even before I passed, I realized that I don't want the CPA to be easy to get – it shouldn't be a participation trophy. If it's easy to get, then it's not worth much. It may sound corny, but I also know years later the sacrifices I made to get my CPA are going to give me the confidence to achieve or make it through other difficult things in my life too.

I know people who got divorced over the CPA exam. It definitely has ruined lives and is one of the most annoying exams because 1) it's 4 parts and 2) they expire. As far as difficulty, it's actually not that hard, it's just too much material to retain.

PSA: If good things were easy …. everyone would do them…. and the exam is not easy and not everyone decides to not have weekends, to work in public accounting, and study after a long work day. You need places like this where other individuals UNDERSTAND your struggle and your pain. Yes this is painful and its not an analogy, my back hurts from sitting hours and hours, my neck is tight, I have had cluster headaches for the past week. But we continue and persist, and when we feel like we can no longer continue, we log in to another71 and read how IT RUINED our life, yet they passed and they got their life back. And guess what happens there…. ?? OH you relate to them, you get inspired and do not feel alone. This is by far the loneliest process you will go through. People don't understand why I want to do this, why I fail multiple times and still go back, why I dont see my son for more than 5 minutes during tax season and still persist… So @cjsoccer3 consider yourself lucky that you have a source to vent with people that understand what it feels to have your life ruined and not your co-worker who is single, fresh out of school, and that passed the exam the first time in a matter of months… Yeah I CANT vent to him.

So thank you Another71, for giving me the opportunity to read about other peoples struggles and knowing I am not alone in my thoughts!
