This is partially a question and partially a rant.
Question first: from your experience (California), how long did it take for you to receive your payment coupon from the NASBA after you selected your CPA section? It has been over a week and still nothing (via email or the NASBA gateway).
Rant: This year’s application process has been utterly ridiculous and jacked from top down, particularly in California. I, and along with many of you, started the CPA process last year and have had to deal with two consecutive years of score delays, exam changes and fee increases. I hate how the AICPA implemented these changes nationally with little to no follow through on information in regards to how these changes and score delays will impact the thousands of candidates. They essentially dumped it onto a state by state basis ie: “contact your state board for all your problems” and of course contacting the CA Board of Accountancy to address these issues is useless and a waste of time.
In summary: the AICPA decides to change exam, these changes cause score delay, we all wait anywhere from 2 weeks to almost 3 months for the one score release at the end of the quarter, when score is finally released, this causes a large influx of applications for license/retake/next section which then overwhelms the state board which then causes delays in the application process. And the whole thing starts over every quarter, at least through the end of 2018. In addition, as mentioned before there’s also the fee increases on the exams and applications. We basically are paying more and receiving less service. In CA when I submitted my application for the next section for Q3, it took them 2 days to cash my check and over 2 weeks to approve my application. After choosing my section, it has been over a week now waiting for my payment coupon. I suspect by the time I’m finally set to schedule my exam date the whole process would be close to or over 4 weeks. People have to plan carefully their study timelines and exam dates to work around the score delays, the sections they need to get done, and especially candidates who have expiring sections coming up. How the hell is anyone supposed to effectively do that if getting a timely application through is a total crapshoot. Just infuriating.
