Personal Issues = Reschedule … What is process?

Running into a bit of a personal issue that has prohibited me from studying the past week or so, and will continue to prevent it for the next week as well. The problem is that my exam is October 8th and I haven’t used even a single day of my “review” window. I think I want to reschedule my exam, but I’m not sure of the process when it comes to the NTS.

My exam was scheduled for Oct 8, the last day of my NTS. Do I just let the NTS expire and re-file a new one? Do I need to let it expire first before reapplying, or can I reapply today while it’s still active? Also, I’m assuming the process is much faster to get an NTS after you’ve already applied once, right?

Lastly, I think I know the answer to this, but you can only take an exam once each testing window, right? If I can take it more than once, I might not reschedule and just take it on the 8th and hope for the best – that way if I do fail I could take it again before year-end.

    Thanks for the help!

i think you have to wait for it to expire to reapply as it won't show up online to purchase, but there may be ways around this if you reach out to your state board. they can perhaps reissue or let you pay for a new one another way. it may vary by state but it's much quicker to receive your NTS on subsequent applications. mine take a couple of days now.

you can only take a section of the exam once per window (you can take multiple sections if you want though) so if you do take it october 8th you can't take it again until january. if you decide to take it another time make sure and cancel your appointment with prometric to ensure they don't count it as you having sat and therefore may not allow you to sit again this window. they'll need your new NTS to book another appointment.

You will have to wait until your NTS has expired before you can apply for another.
Usually you will be able to get a new NTS within 2 days.
Whenever you do take the exam between Oct – Dec 10th you will not be able to retake the exam again until Jan 2017…

Also, the cost to CPA Exam Rescheduling Fees: 30 days or more in advance: no penalty. 5-30 days in advance: $35. 1-5 days in advance: you will be charged the FULL price of the exam.

I would prefer to pay $35 and reschedule than to pay for the exam again. JMP

Thank you both so much! I'm going to see what I get accomplished this weekend and decide on Sunday night whether to reschedule. I will try the state board, as I would rather not wait to get the new NTS until the week after and possibly lose out on scheduling days, as I'd still like to take this in mid-October.

    Thanks again!

I had to reschedule mine around surgery. It was more than 30 days out so it was free and I did it online, but my I'm still taking it before my NTS expires.
