I just wanted to create this forum to tell everyone that yes it is possible to pass each section in 4 weeks while working full time, all it takes is self discipline. I would work 45-50 hours a week and also workout 5 days a week while studying for each part.

    My study schedule:
    Monday-Friday 7:30pm-10:30pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9am-12am and then 4pm-10pm

Create a study schedule and stick to it. Never give yourself an excuse to skip a day of studying.

Also, I never studied any simulations. Simulations are extremely time consuming and pointless in my opinion. As long as you know the material from the book, you will be fine.

Most likely you have an exceptional memory to be able to accomplish this. The majority of people's brains would be fried given this intensity of work and studying combination. That is great work nonetheless, congratulations on completing the exam!

Better than me, I did BEC in 5 weeks without any work and very little working out. FAR almost gotcha though! I am relieved though that the CPA exam is not impossible for full time workers.

I wish I could. I failed BEC. Studied for about 5 weeks. Though I was distracted by other things…

    Congratulations AnnuityDue

I completed all the four papers. It took me four month’s to prepare and complete all these. I registered for CPA beginning of April and cleared all the four parts end of August. I scored 85+ in three papers and 90+ in one.
During April end this year, I traveled with my family (along with kids) to the bay area. It was summer holiday for schools in India and I decided to take my family as well with me. For my first exam, I traveled 36 hours (our flights got delayed by 12 hours along with the connection flights), got down at SFO at 2.30 A.M, drove for 4+ hours to Sacramento, just had time to freshen up and took the exams at 8.00 A.M. I got around 89 marks. Since this was the first one, I was not sure whether I would even have the energy to sit and write for 4 hours of Auditing exam.

Next, I went to Florida to visit the theme parks along with my family after my AUD exam in the west coast. I spent three days visiting the parks along with my family. I had only six days left for my next exam. Since I paid a significant amount of money for the theme park entry tickets, I was in two minds on whether to write the examination or postpone it to Q3. I somehow pushed myself and wrote the exam. I was impressed with the results as I got 90+ in BEC. Earlier in the year, I took CMA and cleared them on the first attempt which helped with my BEC paper. It also gave me a lot of confidence.

During the end of August, I traveled again to the west coast to take up FAR and REG. While I was driving to the exam, I meet with an accident in downtown SFO. Had a flat tire, had to manage the other vehicle and driver involved in the crash had to fix the tire which took me around 3 hours. Reached the Prometric center 30 minutes late but good thing I did was that I called the center and asked for additional time. They gave me exactly 30 minutes extra time to reach the center, and I was able to drive with the damaged car with parts hanging around. I almost gave up the idea of writing the exam, but somehow my right time, I was able to reach the exam center on time. I could hardly concentrate and was staring at the screen for 15 minutes without doing anything. Somehow I recouped and was able to push myself. I did not do well in SIM’s but I was able to secure 85+ in FAR.

These had a significant impact on my preparation for my REG exam as I had only six more days for it. I was a bit demotivated with the accident and the fact I felt that I did not do well in FAR impacted me a lot. I pushed myself and somehow managed to secure 85+ again on this as well.

Being in the middle 40’s, in a senior position in an organization, with two kids, it's not easy to study. However, I believe even if had taken more time, I would have been in the same situation as work and family take priority. More than anything, I felt I had luck on my side, I guess.

What used to work for me and my advice
    1. Put in enough efforts during the weekend (almost 15+ hours) and spend at least 4+ hours early in the morning every day during the weekdays.
    2. I used Becker, and my advice is that you need to have reasonable knowledge in all the chapters and do not leave anything till the last minute. Cover the difficult sections first which I did not do well as I kept pushing the difficult one till the last minute.
    3. Do not get scared by what you hear from others as the exam questions are much easier compared to whatever we have in the study materials.
    4. Do not get scared by SIM’s as I felt that they are reasonably easier compared to whatever we have in the study materials.
    5. If I were to start newly again and write the again, I would not plan for more than two months of study time for each subject.
    6. To cut down the study time, I prepared my notes in Excel, and I used to listen to my notes (using the text to speech feature in Excel). It cuts down the coverage time at least to one-fourth of the time and will help you cover all the chapters the day before the examination as I believe whatever we study during the last two days is what stays in our mind.
My intent is not to boast that I cleared the exams but just to provide some inputs and an update on my journey as it was very scary to begin with but everything worked well for me at the end.

    Thanks.

Congrats! You give me hope. I work full time and I'm taking one grad class at night once a week because I'm finishing my accounting degree simultaneously. I have Fridays off this time of year (so three day weekends) but I compensate for that during tax season. I've made studying my life outside of work, but I feel like I have more trouble than the average person when it comes to understanding certain concepts.

I have REG next week after about 6 weeks of studying and then BEC in Mid November. I too agree that it is possible, but the REG exam coming up in five days is scaring the life out of me. Regardless, thanks for your motivation, I like reading these types of success stories because it helps me stay on track, especially when I'm around people (in my life) who don't realize how time consuming and frustrating the process can be.

    AUD - 8/12/16
    REG - 10/7/16
    BEC - 11/18/16
    FAR - TBD

@Porma Fierles I would sleep about 5-6 hours on the weekdays and sleep 8 hours on the weekends. I would wake up at 5:30am during the weekdays and workout.

    @vellatha
Great story. I really like the advice. Im sure it will help out others.

I would never let myself stress out about each exam. Do not overthink this exam, it will only hurt you. I would stick to my study plan each day and when exam day came, my thought going into each exam was that if I don't pass, I can just retake it. This allowed me to go into each exam without overthinking it.

Another tip. Schedule your exam in advance and never push back the exam because you feel like you need more time to study. With these exams you will never feel completely prepared because there is so much material. Study as much as you can during the 4 weeks and take the exam. If you stuck to your study plan, you will be prepared.

I'm more impressed that you created this forum years ago to make this thread about you passing in 4 weeks and are able to study for 15 hours a day on the weekends including double studying 4pm to 10pm. Not sure hows that's possible? Might have a clone.

    FAR - 86
    AUD - 93
    REG - 8/31/16
    BEC -84

    Hi The.underdog @

I believe this thread was created by AnnuityDue, yesterday and not years ago. I am not sure whether your comment was meant to be sarcastic. I am not here to argue but why won't we be able to study for 15 hours a day. Even more is possible.

@Vellatha , your story is incredible.May I request to please share more what content and how many hours you spent ? Did you study Becker's study guide as well as HW or just HW ? The reason I am asking this because I am also very seriously studying but somehow not able to wrap up.I am particularly interested in your study plan for FAR and REG.I have some background of Accounting as I am a CA and ICWA from India.Your input would be helpful and appreciable.

Annuity is the exception here…It's possible not really common or likely. Truly disciplined people may not have the stamina or lifestyle to allow them to study 3 hours a day while working FT and 9 hours a day on weekends. I would never follow this study schedule nor would it even cross my mind to attempt 3 exams in 4 weeks. I chalk this up as one of those people that just “gets it”.

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

Many of the international students have no choice except to write these exams in 2-3 weeks as they cannot afford to travel twice. I had one of my colleague who came to the US and cleared with 98,96,94 and 92 in 3 weeks time. This was in 2015 August. She was also working full time.

This is quite possible and I am sure many of them have done it. They do not have the luxury of rescheduling or postponing the exams once scheduled.

I work full time, and I have calls/meetings early in the morning and evening as I work for an MNC. Time is very precious, and we realize it when embarking on this kind of challenging courses. I use to get up at 4.00 A.M, study till 7.00 till my family members get up. After my kids leave for school, I go for a walk for an hour with my wife (I use to listen to the lectures during the walk). While driving from home to office for 30 minutes, I would listen to the lectures again. This was for the first two weeks, and I tried to cover as much as possible. If possible, I studied for a couple of hours in the evening, but it's difficult as I would have a break of 30 minutes or 60 minutes in between calls. It's practically impossible to concentrate during that time and spend on studies as we keep thinking about the earlier call or prepare for the next call.

I made use of the weekends (starting from Friday evening till Monday morning), I try to cover two chapters a day (including watching the video, review the material and solve the MCQ’s).

I took a week off from work before the exams and my travel to the US, and that was the real time I spend on pushing myself to the limits. My family cooperated very well, and they wanted me to get out of this soon. But you will never feel fully prepared how much ever you study, and you need to move on. There were many days; I would fall short of my target, and I would move on as per my plan and leave whatever I could not cover. But there were days, where I would get some extra time and be ahead of my plan, and I watch few youtube videos or spend time with my kids. Though I was very serious in my studies, except for not taking my wife shopping, I never missed anything. More than anything it was only for a short period, and it's really worth it making some sacrifice.

Nath: If you are a CA and CWA from India, you have covered most of it already in your graduation and these professional courses. All you need to concentrate is on chapter 6, 8 & 9 on FAR. Concerning REG, the last four chapters should be very easy as these were covered in your graduation. The important ones which you need to concentrate are chapter 3 & 4 which should not take much time. Its bit complicated to understand, but if you listen to the videos 2-3 times, you will get it. I assume you are also using Becker. I used Becker online course.
