Passed REG – Billy Joel in Vegas?

I took REG with only a few weeks to study because the NTS was going to expire so it was a long shot. Since I left the test feeling shitty about it I told myself (and a few others) that if I passed REG I would book a flight to Vegas for Billy Joel on April 30.

Is this formation of a contract with myself? Would this fall under UCC? It wasn’t in writing…

@Tony, Congrats on passing!! I'm currently in the groove for FAR right now, but following April 2nd, I have exactly 26 days to study for REG. Can I please know your study method? Exam date is non-negotiable as I stupidly let time fly so NTS expires on that exam day. Any help would be appreciated.

@hasy Thanks! To be fair I took REG last year (again on 3 weeks of studying) and got a 71 so I had an idea of what the exam would be like.

I used CPA Excel and I printed out the slides for each chapter and summarized notes from the text for each chapter, as well. I also bought the NINJA notes and NINJA audio and looked at the notes while listening to the audio on my daily commute to/from work and at the gym. I also did at least 10 MCQ from each chapter in CPA Excel and wrote out the ones I got wrong. Once I had gone through each chapter in CPA Excel I switched over to NINJA MCQ and made sure I did at least 10 MCQ for each sub chapter. Once that was done I just went nuts on the NINJA MCQ and did as many as I could while writing out the incorrect questions. Remember, the notes and what not were done between two attempts at REG so you might want to just read and then jump to MCQ while taking notes on the ones you got wrong.

I definitely spent more time on taxation than I did on BLaw. Also, I outlined each type of business and how they differed from each other when it came to contributions, distributions, gains/losses, etc.

To be honest it was kind of controlled chaos. Your best bet is to read ninja notes and do a shit-ton of MCQ. If you notice an area where you are terrible at, take 2 hours and just outline that area in your own notes from any source you can use.

    Go kick some ass

Hate to break it to ya, but I'm pretty sure you're under legal liability to go to Vegas. You're now 50% a CPA. You have a lot to lose if you break that contract. GO!

    AUD: 98
    REG: 91
    BEC: 86
    FAR: 83

DONE DONE DONE and DONE all on the first try! It IS possible, just keep on studying!

@Tony, Thank you so much for that. And I have to agree with cb_6185. You need to go and sing along to New York State of Mind! 🙂
