So I finally passed all 4 exams. Now what are the next steps. I called up and I only get my Congratulatory letter in April.

    1. How can I find out if my state requires to take an ethics course? I’m in NJ.

    2. Can I apply for my license before receiving the letter?

I am trying to figure out what the next steps for Jersey are as well..

We do need to take an ethics exam. I confirmed this on this website – https://thiswaytocpa.com/exam-licensure/state-requirements/NJ/ (directly from AICPA website). I am trying to figure out part 2 and whether we can take the ethics exam now that we have all four parts passed.

Scratch that – I just read on another forum we do not have to take an ethics exam just a course within 6 months after we receive our license. We are better off just calling to confirm.

@ITSTIMETOPASS I believe CA is the only state to require ethics exam; but that may not be accurate. I'm in GA and didn't have to do an ethics exam.

I'd go ahead and submit an application online. They'll get it in the system, and if anything is missing, they'll kick it back out to you and let you know what else they're waiting on. Just contact your state board with questions.

@itstimetopass we can submit our application online? I only found a paper version that has to be mailed.

Also – does anyone know do we need to reach out and have every employer we have worked with sign this statement of experience? What if my 1st job didn’t entail any accounting experience, is it okay to mark 0%?

@Go.For.Broke that is definitely not accurate. In IL here and had to do the AICPA ethics exam.

I believe each states application process is different. NASBA has a link on their website for each of the State Boards, this is where you should go to find out what you need to do as far as an application and/or an ethics exam. I am in NY and have to complete a paper application.

@cpachamp I just found out I passed in the State of NY and am so lost on what to do next. Any advice or links for a fellow New Yorker would be appreciated!

In OR once the 4 exams iare passed we have to pass the ethics exam and write a letter/essay that shows how we meet the 7 core competencies that are required to be a CPA which needs to be approved by the board along with the application. I'm becoming a CPA in the wrong state! But congrats on passing all 4 exams, I'm only one away and I'm really jealous! I don't want to take one more!

Congrats ! I passed all too this March. I used Becker and another 71. AUD 82,BEC 78, REG 81, FIN 82. English is my second language. My BS and MS are not accounting major. I am not smart and not young. I have a full time job. Yet, I finally finished all exams . Therefore, I think all of you can pass exams if you don't give up. 🙂

By the way , Jeff is really nice guy and provides great help, though I only contact with him a couple times regarding my purchase for another 71.

I am in WA . After reading requirements in WA web, I still hope I can get some advice to apply my first license.

    1. Is ethics exam difficult ? how to prepare well ( hours ) to pass it ?
    2. Does WA send me a formal letter regarding I passed all exams ?

    3. Do I have to submit an application for license as soon as possible after passing ethics exam ?

Thank you very much ! I hope I can make friends in here.

You're supposed to do your Walk of Shame after celebrating and partying so hard the night before that you made some regretful decisions before your start your new job. : )
