Pass Rates and Exam Changes

The AICPA made the exam harder but the pass rates are pretty much the same? I am not complaining about pass rates but why????????? Why not just leave it or make more minor tweaks? Is it true that REG used to be a 3 hour exam? All they really did was piss off candidates and make this process all the more exhausting. Sorry for the rant haha

I was actually excited about the changes, and it seemed to have worked out well for me. I was always better at SIMs than MCQs so giving them more weight and adding more worked in my favor. All depends on your strengths, I suppose.

But yes, REG used to be 3 hours.

    AUD - 56 - 68 - 61 - 9/8/16
    REG - 75
    FAR - 7/15/16
    BEC - TBD

Wiley CPAexcel and NINJA 10 Point Combo

@ThePeople'sChamp I'm loving the fact that you're getting ready to take REG just like I am and we are both freaking out a little bit about it. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. When is your test?

Gotta find a way to jack the barrier to entry up and yes, BEC and REG use to be 3hr exam.

It's ridiculous, makes me wish I had finished CPA exams back in 2013 when I had first attempted. God knows what they will present candidates with next?! Maybe like a puzzle or some crap lol

    FAR: 76
    REG: Currently studying
    AUD:
    BEC:

It also allows them to charge more for the exams. I squeezed REG and BEC in right before the 2017 changes. Saved me about $50 and 2 testing hours, plus didn't have to do TBS on BEC… although I think I may have enjoyed TBS more than mc looking back on it

I suck hard at MCQ…always have, always will. If I ever teach accounting classes, there will be no MCQ on any of my tests – thankfully, my early accounting professors never asked MCQ either. Maybe that's why I got A's in those courses and proceeded to take the upper-division ones.

The SIMs on BEC were ridiculously hard. Whoever passed prior to them putting SIMs on BEC, consider yourself lucky.

@Zach haha yeah my anxiety about it has subsided for the most part. I am taking it tomorrow (5/11) and am pretty confident based on how hard I have studied compared to the other three exams I have taken. I like this forum, but if you are a confident person and then you come on here and start reading about people's horror stories, you can really start to second guess yourself which I don't like

I really wish I would have sacked up and done them before the changes too. 4 hours of examination is exhausting. Can't imagine the people who have taken it upwards of 10 times… My motivation to do this came after getting engaged to my wife and finding out about our son who is now 7 months old. I tried to do it after college during my first Summer working in public accounting but found out quickly that I valued my freedom more haha. No way in hell did I want to sit on my rear and study all Summer. The external motivation played a big role for me. I wasn't gung-ho enough about my career or accounting to want to do this before life happened

@The People’s Champ – Assuming my attempt at tagging you will result in another failure, but I am sure you will see this nonetheless. Just wishing you the best of luck on your exam tomorrow and try not to overdo it today/tomorrow depending on the time of your exam. Based on your posts it seems as though you have a very thorough understanding of the material and I am confident you will knock REG out this attempt. Good luck!!

@ThePeoplesChamp Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure you will kill it. My REG test is on June 6th so I still have 20+ days left to study, but I'm already starting to feel under the gun.

Our circumstances are sort of similar. I dropped out of college to start my own business when I was 19 and always regretted not finishing my degree. That in and of itself is a long story but after 12 years, 2 different businesses, and varying degrees of success my wife told me she was pregnant with our first child. I sold my business and went back to school. 3 years, 117 credit hours, and 2 kids later I graduated with my bachelors in Accounting and enough credit hours to sit for the CPA.

There is not a day goes by that I don't kick myself for not doing this when I was much younger and before I had a family but you can't change the past, only shape your future.

But you will kill REG tomorrow, I will kill it on 6/6, and we will both be 1 step away from finishing. We got this.
