I am studying Regulation. I started few days ago. I am using Ninja book but I am planning anyway to do Beckers online class. I started chapter(ethics) it is a lot of wording and exceptions. I am writing while studying so I am making sure that I am missing anything. I know that maybe it is not making sense for me. For me accounting is a numeric example and understanding how to do entries or calculate a deduction in case of taxaccounting. I reduced my working hours to two days a week and trying to absorb all that information. I feel that something is wrong with my processing.

I think your issue is thinking accounting is just numbers and it is a lot more than that. So having to learn theory etc might be a bit difficult for you (brains just work diff).

    BEC - 77, 03/2015 (first try)
    FAR - 79, 05/2015 (second try)
    REG - 83, 12/2015 (first try)
    AUD - 84, 03/2015 (first try)

I got 99 problems but the CPA ain't one.

I work in tax, am not even half-way through the REG material (I haven't gotten to Ethics/B-Law yet), and am also feeling overwhelmed. This stuff is hard, and there is a lot of material. I agree with @EuroAddict that accounting is not just numbers and calculations, you have to find a way to wrap your head around the theory stuff. Just take it one section at a time and practice, practice, practice. Repetition is key. Good luck and you can do this!

Nahla2016, let me give you an advice regarding Ethics chapter with Becker in case you have not noticed. Most of Becker questions covered exactly what Peter Olinto mentions on his lecture. This does not hold true for every chapter, but it does for Ethics, which is 17% of the exam. I made flash cards with everything he mentioned, and I scored 90% on the HW first tried. This way you can eliminate what is not necessary according to Becker and finish that chapter quickly.

    This guy got a 99 on Reg=

    This guy got a 99 on REG=

    People who asked about REG.
    – Memorize Becker mnemonics (ALL)
    – Study business law first and then start the tax chapters – that is an effective way to avoid the headache revising all of these tax laws and formulas
    – Anything that Tim or Peter skim/scan in the chapters, ignore it!
    – Know the AL, navigate it before you go to sleep and know the ins and outs of it because it's you major source for the vast majority of the sims (there is a limit to what you can memorize, so for sims, you're not requires to recall memory; instead, navigate the AL) (allocate at least 2 hours for sims on exam day)
    – Do not focus on numbers/thresholds/brackets.
    – Exam doesn't test you with calculation of tax or the sort; rather, it tests the knowledge of the law
    – Read all tax returns attached to Becker, and know them
    – Do all MCQs (not the optional though)
    – Do all sims (that is the only way you can force yourself to actually improve your navigating/searching skills)
    – Read flashcards often
    – Study only what Becker highlights in the book
    – Trust your first gut, do not change your answers
    – Do not spend too much time on a single MCQ. You either now it or you don't, so move on
    – On exam day, read the call of the question first (last sentence) then read the whole question
    – – I highly recommend using ear plugs on the exam
    – Agency law and like kind exchange is important
    – Do progress tests, at least 30 MCQ a day
    – If you have time before the exam, don't waste time on MCQs; instead, read the chapters

I know it sounds a lot, but I did it and it was hard but it paid off. If I remember anything else, I'll come back..

martin, no i am not implying that haha just havin fun on this thing. I believe your advice is very spot on. I had a research sim for FAR that took me about 30 minutes to finally find the answer to. Took me to the very last result out of about 20 results to get the right answer. Was about to just cash in and hope for the best. Really think if i didnt allocate the time for that i would not have gotten my (perfect score) 75.

The guy who got a 99 clearly states “Do not focus on numbers/thresholds/brackets”…Are we sure this is sound advice? Beckers HW focuses a whole lot on numbers, this confuses me a bit.

itsanaccrualworld, lol, I got you now. I'm under memory enhancers, which increases memory retention, but lowers your logical thinking, so I thought you were implying I was stating the obvious.

CPA2BEE, what he meant was to not pay too much attention to thresholds that change every year. The 50% cash or 30%property of charity contributions do not change every year.

The weird part is that I found BEC and FAR harder than Reg thus far. I still have to cover Ch7 and 8.

The one thing I learn about the REG exam is that the majority of the exam will be focused on Taxation and Transactions Accounting. BLAW is is mostly conceptual.

I focused about 80% of my time on Taxation and Transactions Accounting. The other 20% was on BLAW which i mostly studied by making practice tests. I didn't really go over the chapters.

You mcq's and most of your SIMS will be Tax. I would be worried if you have a lot of BLAW questions.

Skynet, I have an average of 86% with Becker between taxes and ethics, which is 80% of the exam. What do you mean by transactions accounting?

I want to finish all the Blaw chapters by 4/21, so I can have at least 45 days of final review. I know you did great with Gleim. And I know it has the hardest simulations and questions out of all the study packages especially for Reg. What were you scoring before you took the exam, and how should I do my final review assuming I get gleim? I can not afford to fail Reg, so Im studying 9 hours per day (12 promodoros-45 min each).

Thanks in advance for your help.

I took AUD first, and that was basically one semester's worth of material in a four-hour exam with 90 MCQs and 7 sims. REG is more like four semesters worth of material in a three-hour exam with 72 MCQs and 6 sims. There's much more material with less margin for “throwing away” a question because you didn't have a good handle on the topic. It's very intimidating IMO.

    Oh well. Back to work.

Martin – I started trending in the 60%-70%. Close to exam, I was trending 80%-90%. I should also clarify that I mean Property Transactions when I said Transaction Accounting especially Nonmonetary Exchanges. You will definitely get those on the exam, so you need to be prepared for it.

If you were to get Gleim, Study all Taxes and Property Transactions Chapters. Expect to spend lots of time on the SIMS too. Studying the SIMS seriously helped me a lot because, everything that I focused on was expected on both the mcq's and SIMS on the actual exam. You can't do much with AL in REG because it just SUCKS in REG for AL.
