Went to Martha’s Vineyard this weekend and saw a small CPA firm. I also saw a small CPA firm when I went to Key Largo. Kind of kicking myself for not walking in and introducing myself, lol.

Any thoughts on opening a firm in these touristy destinations where there are a lot of local “mom and pop” businesses?

Pros and Cons? Just looking to start a discussion. Please feel free to share any experience you have with this (especially looking for how many of years experience of you might need to do this successfully) Here is what I could come up with…

You have to be well-versed in many topics of accounting from income tax, sales/meals taxes, property taxes, general accounting (most likely quick books). Business could be seasonal but helloooo island time 🙂

Interesting topic- I have a dream of one day passing the CPA exam and then opening up a small mom and pop shingle in a warm sunny locale (okay I have two dreams)– I have actually given a lot of thought to this and I keep coming back to what I think would be the hardest part of doing it- which would be connections. I am just not going to know the people I will need to know to make the money I will need to make to make a go of it. Perhaps if I were younger I would pick a locale and join up with an established small firm which would enable me to make the connections I would one day need… but at my age just not realistic enough. Would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this topic.

and they ask me why I drink...

REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade

    AUD- 9/2
