Hello all, hopefully a quick question. I’m an Advisory Director at a Big 4 and I’m looking in to getting a CPA. I was undergrad Business MIS and Finance along with an MBA but graduated 12 years ago. In looking at the North Carolina requirements, I would need about 18 credit hours.. I’ve taken Int 1, Int 2, Aud 1, Cost 1 as part of my Finance undergrad.

My question is, are there any issues you are aware of with taking the remaining credits through University of Phoenix? Will the qualify? I know it cost quite a bit more but at this point, the ease of getting the credits is all I need and I’ll take Becker through the firm.

I would check with your partners/etc. at the big 4 – 18 credit hours isn't that much. maybe they'll float your costs? then you can ensure you're working with universities that will relieve this concern.

Make sure you contact Phyllis Elliot who deals with all aspects of the CPA exam requirements (i.e. course requirements, credits eligibility, etc.) in the state of NC. Her direct landline and email are listed on the NC CPA Board website.

She's more likely to respond promptly if you send her an email. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the responses. Costs aren't an issue as my firm will 100% cover those (they are the ones asking me to go and do this). I just want to get the credits needed in the easiest way possible, regardless of costs. and then I'll study with Becker. I just want to make sure that the board with accept credits from UofP.

Is community college not an option? According to Google, tuition at UoP is $398 per credit, or about $7k total, versus $46 per credit for community college (northern CA). So even if your employer is paying for it, I still think it would be a waste of money.
