Once I receive my NTS can I schedule the test for the next day? If not what is the earliest I could reliably schedule it?

I believe it is 6 or 7 days after. You would have to check the availability at prometric testing center to see if there are any open seats. Better to schedule earlier than later.

I'd check prometric and see the earliest date that is open to you, but I think testing closes Sept 10th this quarter anyway.

Depends on the testing center availability. I've never been able to schedule the exam for the next day, but have been able to 2 days ahead. I always booked last minute because my schedule is unpredictable.

Eh, may be possible. Not sure about the 5 day rule, I haven't heard of that before. I received my NTS for REG at about 10:30 pm on a Friday night and was able to schedule for noon the next day. My Prometric was not very busy though. The rest of the exams I did all would have been more than 5 days out.
