    Hello All!

I am new to the forum and have recently decided to take the plunge and get my CPA (Staying positive using get and not try to get). Some background information on me I graduated in 2005 with a finance degree (didn’t take many accounting classes) and got a job in tax after I graduated. In 2012 I went back to school to get a master in taxation (graduated in 2015 – went part time).

My question is…With recent New Jersey education requirement changes there is a chance I will have to take a 1 or 2 classes just to sit for the exam (I sent all my information about a week ago) there is a long shot I will not have to take any. So back to my question – Should I start study now or wait to hear back from the state to see if I need to take additional classes?

    Thanks,

    John

Most people recommend studying for a max of 8 weeks per part as you tend to forget the information if your study time is longer.
I had a wait time of approx 5 months for NYS where I was not sure if I would be approved or not. I chose to wait.
Looking back, beginning to review some of the stuff would have probably been a good idea, but you should anticipate going over everything you study now again as you begin to really study.

start studying if you know you're going to go on this journey. #1 advice is start with FAR. Also, take into account that cpa study material time starts ticking the moment you log on. So account for that timeline with how seriously you'll be studying if you're going to buy Becker as it's very expensive.

Gleim access until you pass saved me bigtime. I bought the full study material then I half-hearted studied for a few months and quit. 2 years later I called them up and got access to the material all over again free of charge. If you're not 100% sure you will stick with it, or if you end up having to take more classes, Gleim premium is a good option. Having trouble finding the forum rules so hopefully promoting Gleim isn't against the rules.

I would buy review material and start reading the book/watching lectures without doing any mcq. A year can go by and it will still be easier studying after going through the material once.

best thing i did was spend the money and buy a review package. Spending 2k on the review course gave me a “pot committed” mindset and now im 12 months in, have passed 3 for 3 and am going for my 4th in december. i had been given free access to becker and bisk and wiley over the course of my career but when its free its usually not fully respected or appreciated. when its your own cash you tend to stick to it.

If you follow the program of the review course and set a schedule and stick to you the results will come.

I use roger, and i have stuck to the study guide like it was gospel and i am seeing results. i encourage you to find the review that works best for you, for me roger worked best to my learning style.

best of luck to you and kick its ass.
