I am currently studying for REG using Becker and they changed the software for the SIMS to mirror what the new test software will be like. To be honest, I don’t like it very much because you can’t expand the answer window on the Becker software and I end up having to do a ton of scrolling just to enter the answers.

I understand the concept of why they changed it because now you can have a split screen to keep from having to click back and forth between pages when there are multiple facts and exhibits, but having to scroll so much just to enter answers is a pain. I study exclusively on my laptop which only has a 19″ screen so I’m hoping that the new 23″ screens at Prometric will eliminate having such a small answer window.

Yesterday was the official first testing day of Q2, but I believe most people won’t be actually testing until today. So, I was wondering if anyone who has taken a section yesterday or today with the new software could give us a rundown of what the new SIM software was like and if it was better or worse than the old software. Specifically, did you have to scroll a ton to enter the answers and was the split screen function helpful or detrimental to your exam experience?

I took AUD today. I use Wiley to prep and it's the exact same as what was provided there. Only real differences are the look, the fact you can use the actual excel program, and format for authoritative literature searching (not really that different, just smoother and newer).

It was also really nice because they split your screen to have the question on one half and space for the documents you had to pull up on the other half. Overall it was a lot better, though I did find a typo in one of the sims that had 2 very different answers depending on what the correct text should have been..

Thanks for the info, @eMeRGeD. Did you have to scroll horizontally at all to enter your answers into the question half of the screen? Or was the window big enough that you could see the question and the answer box without scrolling?

I hope I passed too, I got a 74 last time!!! And no, they did a good job with spacing so the questions always fit into that half the screen, horizontally at least. Also it may be worth mentioning that I believe they did away with decimal place garbage and just do the required rounding for you. That was nice, I know on some of the practice sims I'd get it wrong because I put 1.5 instead of 1.50.

Thanks! That answers my concern about the question half of the screen on the actual test. It really bugs me to do all that scrolling on the SIMs on my laptop, but I guess I just need a bigger screen! Also, good info about the rounding. I always made sure to read the instructions on the test about how many decimal places, whether to enter a 0 or leave it blank, etc. very carefully But, it's good to know that they shored up that detail on the actual exam. Good luck with your AUD score, I'm sure you passed this time!
