I’m doing cumulative tests from all the tax chapters every other day as I’m going over the ethics ch 5 now. I have spent around 6 weeks just covering Tax, and now my cumulative tests scores from Becker are around 87% to 90% correct. I want to be done by 4/15 so I can have 45 days of final review. The problem is that it takes me too long to cover any particular chapter since I do flash cards of what Peter olinto or Tim highlights as important. The good thing about that is that I average above 85 on the HW, the bad thing is that I won’t get to cover the 3 chapters of blaw if I keep on following this method of learning. What do you guys think I should do in this case? I’m getting nervous and it’s affecting my sleep now. Damn this exam is not good for your health.

    Flash Cards Method

Two theories have been put forth as to why flash cards testing works: 1) testing enhances retention by triggering elaborative retrieval processes by accessing your long-term memory and retrieving associated information and 2) testing facilitates the encoding of more effective mediators via cues and targets. Additionally, recent evidence suggests that practice testing also improves the ability of students to mentally organize their knowledge, and thereby increasing the speed and efficiency of the information retrieval process.

I suggest making sure you get those BLAW chapters in, even if you have to adjust your study method. I have never left anything out on an exam, even if I had to skim it. If I had to choose between flash cards and practice testing, flash cards would be the first thing to go. I suggest going over the BLAW chapters more quickly, practice testing, and using flash cards for the questions you miss. Some of the BLAW is common sense, so you might get it correct just with lecture and without the intense flash cards.

    Good luck!

Thanks, I will try to give myself no more than 3 days pear each Business Law Chapter. At the end of the day, you learn more by practicing.

I would not skip the B-Law. From what I recall of the exam, I had a few questions that were no where to be found in either Becker, or what I leaned in 2 B-Law and 2 Tax classes. It’s like I had to guess based on what I knew- apply what I learned, not just recall. Other than that, know the Becker stuff and you will be fine.

The last think you want to do to yourself is panic going into the exam because you skipped a few chapters. I agree with Stilgoin. You should not leave anything out.

Agree with what everyone else has said in terms of not skipping B-Law.

Much more important to spend an extra day or two on each chapter of business law to completely understand it. Realistically, you don't need anywhere close to 45 days of final review and rushing through 3 chapters of the book will likely harm you come exam time.

Its true about B-Law. In a previous thread I stressed coving it and one of the other posters berated me for doing so. I was like Whatttt? I agree with not taking too long to review. I think a day per chapter is ideal, then rest the day before the exam-provided that you understood what you learned the first time. I think 2 weeks to review is good time frame.

i wouldn't make flash cards but a have good set of notes. just type them in excel, make mnemonics to memorize, say the requirements for an attachment (example below). do lots of problems.

“Pawn Shop attached to Atlantic City is the SaVeR. Yeah right. LOL”
    Pawn (possession)
    Shop (signed)
    V in Saver (value given)
R in saveR (Debtor has RIGHTS in the collateral or possession right like car on credit)

    Licensed CPA since Apr 16
    Order in sequence of passing
    FAR-71,71,79
    BEC-80
    REG-72,77
AUD-56,72,72,72,80! Thank you, thank you, thank you Lord!

Thank you all for the great tips. I did not need flash cards when I was in College, but these exams covered so much material that I can't get a passing score without doing my own flash cards and mix them with Becker's. I don't know if you guys have noticed but if you write whatever peter olinto covers on his Professional Resp and ethics Ch5, you can get a score of above 90% on your first try. You dont even have to read the book. Pretty much whatever he says is then tested by the test bank. This did not happen on the Tax lectures or other parts I have taken already. I will not skip any portion of Blaw, and reduce my final review time to 35 days.

    Thank you all!
