    Hi Guys,

Thanks for checking out my post. I am a recent immigrant to the US from Pakistan and I’m a Permanent Resident and have been struggling with trying to get a job. I was hired by PwC for a seasonal Audit specialist position but the contract ended and I was not offered a full time position. I got some responses but did not get hired, my responses to application are really slow too. I would apply to 50 jobs and get a call from 2, I have fixed my resume and took all suggestions from the Bean Counter as he is experienced with Big 4. I feel like my resume looks perfect now but I’m hardly getting any responses back, I’m applying to jobs that require a degree and no experience or less experience. I have a Bachelors Degree from both Pakistan and UK, I have a Bachelors in Science Degree from UK, about two years of experience in as an Accounting clerk in a small firm in Pakistan and now 6 month from PwC as a Seasonal Audit Specialist.

Can I honestly get an offer from any Big 4 or even the top 25 firms for an Audit Associate position?. I’ve applied to every one of them and even outside of state with out any responses. I got an offer from PwC for Seasonal Tax and they assured me that their department is looking to make permanent and have lots of positions open but for some reason I declined it. I’m definitely more interested in Audit so that is the reason I declined. I feel stuck and feel may be I’m aiming for too high of a salary.

I know Associate positions pay pretty well in Big 4 or Big 25, What does it take to get into them?. I do not have any internship experience nor went to a University in the US. Please make any suggestions, I would really appreciate any and all input.

    Thank you

From my experience, Big 4 does the vast majority of their hiring from campus recruiting events. Otherwise, your only real chance is to know someone who can help you get your foot in the door, or to come in as an experienced (manager) hire.

If I were you I'd look into some career fairs around your area. Big firms usually go to big universities to recruit so I would look into when they will be at your local big university (it may cost a little to go to them since you didn't go to school there but it will be worth it). I think a few of the Big 4 firms (maybe even all of them) have a schedule of their recruiting visits to different universities and I believe you can even filter it to only show local schools. That's my suggestion, its much easier to get an interview through a career fair than through simply submitting an application and resume.

Also make sure you have a strong cover letter to go with your resume.

you mentioned your starting salary may be too high?

It's easier to find a job if you already have one. It may be worth it to take a slightly lower paying job to be able to say “I am employed” and then work at either a lateral transfer into another department or a jump to another company altogether.

    just a thought

@madmax49 the degree from UK. Is it accounting related or business? Have you passed CPA? How old are you?

Also, to piggyback off Andy, your state's CPA society may hold some meet the firms events or some similar type of career fair.
