I sat for AUD back in the beginning of October. I just received my score and lets just say, it wasn’t good at all. I am in the middle of studying for BEC and am scheduled to sit for it in a few weeks at the end of November. Should I continue to study and keep the plan as is or should I push BEC back and try to retake AUD first?

Donna, keep going with BEC. You wont be able to take AUD until Jan. Good Luck

You can only take an exam once per testing window, so if you took AUD at the beginning of October, I think you'll have to wait until January to retest. I would recommend that you keep studying for BEC, but throw in a handful of AUD practice problems every day or so in order to keep the information you have already learned from going stale. I'm not sure what program you're using to study; I'm using Becker, and I try to take a 24-question progress test every other day or so that covers the material I've already learned, so I don't lose it was I progress into new areas. Otherwise, but the time I get to F6 (for example), F2 is gone!

I'm sorry you didn't get the score you wanted, but I'm sure you can get it next time. Good luck!

Don't be discouraged, these tests are very difficult and it appears you're just starting out.
Focus on BEC, learn the definitions and uses for all of the formulas carefully.
After you take the test go back to your Audit materials and hit everything like its your first time studying.
    AUD – 89
    BEC – 80

Thanks for the encouragement!!!. I definitely need it. This was my first time sitting for an exam and I got a huge awakening. I am using Roger Review course but now I'm thinking I should also use a MCQ test bank with my studying. Any advice on that?

I personally think a test bank is a great idea for BEC. The concepts you'll be tested on are unpredictable because this test is a catch-all.
The good news is that there isn't as much material on BEC as there is on AUD. The bad news is that AUD concepts build on themselves, whereas BEC is kinda random.
I would recommend grouping your formulas (for example, list all the liquidity vs. solvency vs. capital budgeting, etc) and memorize the definitions.
It takes time and dedication but you will get there!

    Zombiemouse & ps8004,

AUD 99 & 89 respectively.. Kudos to you both

Can you share your AUD & BEC preparation tips.

I do not have AUD or TAX background.

I have ROGER lectures, text books, MCQs and NINJA MCQs

MY AUD exam is on Dec 3. Is it doable or should I postpone the test ?

2701, I think you can study adequately for AUD in 4 weeks. I have a friend who used Roger and she pulled an 79.
Reading the materials very carefully is important for Audit. If you learn the basic reports and opinions you can extrapolate from those during your MCQ testlets to get the right answer. Also understand the audit process from beginning to end, including planning, testing, and opinion. Audit is difficult because there are “good” answers but only one correct one for MCQ, so it's important carefully read the question each time and understand what it is asking, and understand why three answers are wrong.
For the sims use the AL if you get stuck. There is a lot of information thats fair game for audit sims so the best thing to do in prep is be comfortable with the standards and know your way around the AL.
    Good luck!!

@user2701 — I studied for AUD in four weeks while working full-time, so it is definitely doable. I used Becker, but since I had a relatively short window of time to learn the material, I skipped the lectures and focused on the book and practice problems, including sims. I realize this approach doesn't work for everyone, so my advice is to think about your learning style and devise a study plan that plays to that. I'm a visual learner, so I prefer to read through the material until it “clicks.” If you're an auditory learner, you may want to skip the text for now and listen to lectures every chance you get.

I think ps8904's advice is spot-on. The only thing I would add is to familiarize yourself with the various audit reports. You don't need to memorize them per se, but you should know the order in which key statements appear, as well as how standard reports are modified for different opinions. It really helped me to connect the format of each report with the report's intended use, including the anticipated audience.

I don't have an audit background either, but in some ways I think that actually works in our favor. My husband is a second-year audit associate and is having trouble with AUD because many of the questions represent more of an “perfect world” scenario, whereas in real life there are exceptions to the exceptions to the exception and pragmatism occasionally trumps best practices.

    Anyway — good luck!

    Thanks ZombieMouse.

How many hours you used to put in for AUD ?

By going through AUD reports, you mean to say to read reports of various companies to know of the flow ?

Oh, you husband is also giving CPA exams, great !

Is it necessary that we should study in the order of the lessons given in the book, or is it that we can randomly choose. Asking because some chapters may have a base for another chapter. Is that so ?

I am worried about the sims.

    Thanks ps8904
