I am hoping to get some advice as my situation differs quite a bit from others. I am 40 years old and have recently decided to take the CPA. However, I’ve been out of school for over 5 years (graduate degree in accounting) and I feel like my accounting education was rather poor. I have been doing accounting for a private company (mainly project accounting for 10 years) so I do have quite a bit of career experience. What would be the best way for me to prepare for the CPA? Just a couple of other notes…..I have two kids so I have to be able to balance family and the test…….I have always been a good test taker…….I have the ability to study some at work (especially via audio). Thanks in advance!

For anyone that used the Wiley books and the Ninja MCQ together, what is a good plan of attack? Should I read the review chapters in Wiley first and then take the MCQ test questions? I haven't started studying yet but am trying to put together a plan of attack.

I used Becker but otherwise, I've been out of school for more than 25 years, didnt have an accounting major, havent worked in the field for 17 years, run my own business (70-90+hours per week) plus have a family (and oh yeah, I'm a woman)

And I passed all sections in one year! It can be done but you have to be disciplined. Any free time I was using my iphone flash card app (waiting at the bank, in line at grocery store etc)

    Good luck!

@pmsmith2032, I use the Wiley books and the Ninja MCQS…. I personally read the book, doing the questions in the book as I go and then I'll work on the MCQs, I start section by section to review, and now as I'm closer to my test, I just jumble them in together to make it more of a testing environment. Granted, I'm starting with REG, but I definitely recommend working on SIMS (simulation questions) at some point as well (they are included with the Ninja MCQs). Just my opinion 🙂
