Hey everybody! I’ve been trying to contact NASBA since Thursday morning about getting a credit extension. I sent an e-mail Thursday morning, I resent it this morning. I called this morning (no message left) and called again this afternoon before they would have closed and left a message.

Anybody getting replied back from NASBA?

I really wish WA State would have done what other states did and done a blanket extension for people effected by the change. Instead, I have to go through the coordinator @ NASBA who I’m sure is getting blasted with people calling 🙁

    I reached them last week…

Washington State is requiring you to submit an email with the following to the following person:

    1. Your name, email, phone number
    2. A schedule of when you sat for previous exams and scores you received
    3. Why you weren't able to pass in 18 months
    4. Any other applicable notes (if you were sick, a hospital note, ect)

    Email to: charless@cpaboard.wa.gov

Hope this helps! I'm still waiting to hear about mine 🙁

    Thank you for the input.

I called the WA state CPA board, and they told me that I had to go through NASBA – he said they contracted out that service…so weird. I let the guy know that I've been trying to contact NASBA since Thursday morning and they haven't responded. He told me if I still don't hear from her in the next day or two to call them back and he will see what he can do 🙁

    Right

The Wa State board when I called told me to contact NASBA too.
When I called NASBA they told me to email that specific email listed above, with those specific questions answered.

Just send your email to that person.

I emailed him and he immediately responded with

    “Natalie,

Thank you for your e-mail. I will evaluate and respond to your request as soon as possible.

    Regards,”

    Update: Called to follow up

They are sending it to a 3rd party after they receive it.

    Her name is Shamika 615-880-4254.

So you email to Charles who's the head of the board for WA state, then he sends it on to her. They did mention that they're basically waiting for BEC score releases too so it may be another few days before they even address it.

I was able to talk to her today. She's swamped with e-mails and calls. The thing I like about her is she leaves her contact info on her voicemail. She said she gets requests and forwards them to WA state and the decision is made there – but she also said her supervisor has information for her but the supervisor has been in meetings and therefor unavailable. Shamkia said after she touches bases with her supervisor, she's expected to have some additional information to provide us and she'll be drafting up a letter to send out either today or tomorrow.

That would make sense if they wait until the BEC scores though. I wish I was in one of the states that granted automatic extensions. It would make sense if we are affected by the 3 month delay, we should get a 3 month extension automatically. It was good of those states to be proactive and have a set plan in place.

Wait- So we were literally told opposite things.

I sent my stuff directly to Washington state. They said Shamika is who is handling all decisions.

She just told you that the state was who was making all decisions?

It sounds like we're getting the run around.

Yes, she said it was the state making all of the decisions…

I got an e-mail from her this morning saying:
“NASBA and the state board will contact the candidates once all scores has come in from the AICPA, and will reach out once a decision has been made regarding the outcome for the credit extensions.”

So…a while back WA state said they were reviewing them on a case-by-case basis. When I e-mailed NASBA requesting an extension, I didn't give them all of the information about my exam – how I took two exams in Q2, didn't get the score until Q3 and have one expiring in Q3 and lost a quarter to study.

I think the reason we've been getting the run around is because they didn't have a plan setup – and more likely than not, didn't realize so many people were going to be affected by the score release delay 🙁
I scheduled my retake for the beginning of October (9 days after my WEDDING) and my other retake for the beginning of December which is like 3 weeks past the expiration of my exam – this delay in decision is really complicating things 🙁

I got the EXACT same email.

I replied and said I'm trying to schedule re-takes is there any general timeline for this process? And she just said “once all scores are out they will begin deciding”

Krstnam. I'm not sure if there's a way to PM on here? I couldn't find it. But if you want to connect keep in touch about all this let me know!

    Hi Natalierose and krstnam,

have you had any luck with the WA state board and NASBA? I just got my failed score for BEC back (the same day as my REG expired) and now wondering if I should attempt reaching out to Charles.

    Hope all's well!

NASBA/CPA Examinations Services does not have the authority to grant extensions of exam credit. Now, candidates could submit the documentation to the CPAES Coordinator then it goes to the board who then approves the extension, then sends that approval back to the coordinator to update the information. This is just like what happened last year with the score release delay. Some state boards required you to contact them directly, most others had you contact your coordinator who then relays the information to the board for approval.
