Major dilemma, and I do not know the answer

    Hello everyone,

    Time for my daily rant. I did approximately 150 MCQ for FAR, and I am in my final review (take the exam on 6/10). There really isn’t the time to p go back and re-learn this stuff, and I do feel I gave ample study time throughout the process; however, now that I’m reviewing, I am scoring terrible on these sets of 20 (55-60%), and I just feel that I’m mindlessly spitting out MCQs. Any suggestions? And please don’t say re-reading the Gleim book, since there truly isn’t time. 🙂

    I'm assuming you meant to say 1,500? But even then, that should be more like 5,000+. Thats my opinion anyway

    @knight,

    Just started reviewing yesterday. Did 200 yesterday, but struggled with getting 150 today.

    @track55,

    I don't know if it is a matter of time, so much as it is that I feel like I'm merely going through the motions. I don't like the idea of memorizing answers, for obvious reasons. I just truly have forgotten this stuff. I wouldn't change the timeframe for studying though, because any more condensed, and I would have felt really rushed. Not sure what the answer is.

    @Biff,

    No I meant 150, just referring to today's activity. Three hundred and fifty in the past 2 days.

    Hi Excel. Having some difficulty zeroing in on what you are trying to get across. Did you study a lot, feel prepared and then set it aside? Or did you do that and now you feel like *!@# it, I studied all this and now I can't get any of the questions right!

    I would devote as much time as you possibly can in the next few weeks and just do as many MCQ's as you can. Hearing that you just started doing the questions and that you're scoring as low as you are is pretty normal. As long as you are taking time for each question to learn why the answer is what it is, you won't be memorizing answers or mindlessly spitting out MCQs. You'll be learning and applying the concepts that you read about in the books. As you progress through more and more questions, I guarantee you will find your averages quickly rising.

    Honestly in my opinion, reading the books is borderline pointless without doing MCQs. The books are filled with so much information, and so much trivial information there is no way somebody is going to remember the concepts by reading it in a paragraph once and then moving on to the next 200 concepts. By the time you get to the end of the book you've probably forgotten the first 95% of the book. I've managed to pass 3 exams, pretty much by only doing Ninja MCQs. I looked in the book about once or twice, and that was only when there was a specific concept that I needed clarification on.

    Repetition through MCQs (In my opinion) is the only way to actually learn the concepts. Plus it will give you a very good idea of what they will be testing for, and so you won't be focusing on the other 50% of the book that is just trivial crap that won't even be tested.

    Second that – I can carefully listen to the lecture (several times), take copious notes, have what I feel is an excellent grasp of the concept and still screw up the MCQ's. Now I use the lectures more for review.

    @cpa2021,

    It is the latter. I studied all of this, and can't get a decent score to save my a$$!!!

    @Biff-1955-Tannen,

    I hope you are right about plowing through MCQs. I don't know of anything else to do; at least that I have time for. I methodically went through each Gleim unit, reading the book and watching the audio presentations sometimes twice; now, it's all gone. Lol

    It's not gone – trust me – it's the theory that learning the stuff ='s ability to answer test questions that has to go.

    But you can't do the latter without the former, so you're in much better shape then you think you are. Much better.

    I second everything Biff said. Consider spending the $47 bucks for the NINJa MCQ's – if only for the way cool charty, graphy adaptive learning chart.

    200 a day is alot unless it's a before, lunch and after work split. I end up just going through the motions trying to do that many so that the last 50 are worthless.

    Finally I'll just add that reading all the answers – right and wrong – is critical. I don't think you can do that with NINJA as easily as say GLEIM. If you're pressed for time and don't have the time to really look into stuff, Just guess and then read the test bank author's explanations.

    Biff-1955-Tannen, I think doing just MC questions worked for you cause you are just very smart. Many people learn the conventional way. Going over lectures and reading the material. You can learn by just doing MC questions if you have a good background on the subject. In other words, after reading the book and going over lectures. If just doing MC questions was enough, I believe 100% of the review courses wouldn't exist, and College professors along with their books wouldn't exist either. On the other hand, the OP only has 3 more weeks or less, so now he has to work on questions and simulations. He can not afford to go do the lectures again. OP, how many questions have you done in total since you started studying? You should have done at least 5,000 before sitting for the exam.

    @cpa2021,

    I just hope the actual exam questions are easier than Gleim. I've heard that they are, so I'm praying. I know nothing is going to be easy, but I need all of the breaks I can get. Lol

    sometimes I feel like study material purposely makes the questions impossible so you get them wrong and study WAY more then you normally would. So you pass and the company gets a better review from more people passing.
