    Hello Everyone,

I know you need 150 credits, with 33 accounting related and 36 general- business related to become licensed in NYS (not to sit for exam-eligible to sit in June). Does anyone know who I can contact to figure out if my 36 general business related credits all count? I’ve counted 39 credit hours, but I’m highly skeptical of a course labeled business & professional development, personal finance, intro to computer applications, or even Spec 1103- Communicating Techniques.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I start working for a big firm in June and I’m pretty sure they require completion of the 150 before you start, so I’m a bit freaked out. Hopefully I can take an online class while working and they will never know.

    Thanks,

I'm also with NYS. Email Tomu Itoh <titoh@nasba.org>. He is Examination Coordinator & State Board Liaison. He responds to emails really quick and provides you great feedback.

I called nasba yesterday and I had someone on the phone in like 4 mins. They transferred me directly to the NY coordinator his name was James something. They will probably tell you to send them your transcript so that they may audit them.

Thanks for the help. Seems like I have apply for an advisory evaluation which is $100 and then mail official transcripts within 45 days. I feel like this is going to take months.

Mine took a couple of weeks, but you have to follow up on them if you want it faster.

Decided to send all transcripts in for evaluation and hopefully within 4 weeks they will have a response for me. I even emailed someone at NYSED.GOV and she gave me a breakdown of which of my courses count. According to her 34 of the credits counted towards business. She wasn't sure about the 2 credits in professional development and didn't count a speech class which I thought was surprising as I found the following on the NYSED.GOV website:

    Business and Accounting Communications
Communications (written or oral) courses may be taken from the Liberal Arts Department. A non-business writing or public speaking course will satisfy this requirement. Courses specifically in “accounting” or “business” communications are not required, but can be accepted as business credit if taken.

Anyway, thanks again for the all input.
