Well. If you’ve ever heard a crazy CPA exam story, here’s another one for ya..

I just took my FAR exam yesterday.
Today, I decided to get my haircut because after 14 intense days of studying, I came out of my cave looking like well, a caveman :/
Call me cheap, but I don’t think it’s worth getting haircuts at the salon for $20, so my relatives cut my hair for me. Usually, as they’re cutting my hair, they either are amazed at how “luscious and full my hair is” or complain that it’s so “thick and difficult to tame”. For a guy, I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but while I’m still young, I appreciate having my curly hair.

That is until today, my aunt takes one stride with the razor and stops. She doesn’t say a word, but from the reflection of the mirror I can see her squinting closely and I feel her brushing my hair with her fingers. Then she finally asks, “When did you get this bald spot?” I chuckled and said “Lol what do you mean? I have so much hair you probably need a lawn mower right now..haha”
She didn’t react to my golden joke, and kept the serious look on her face. Then I got a little worried.. She gets her iPhone and takes a picture and BEHOLD…
Right smack dab in the middle on the back of my head is a big circle of NOTHING. A Bald Patch.

I’m kinda over it now, but at the time I almost freaked out, and of course did a quick google search and it seems like i have a case of Alopecia Areata..
“an autoimmune disease in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body, usually from the scalp due to the body’s failure to recognize its own body cells and subsequent destruction of its own tissue”….

YUP. one cause of it is it’s hereditary… but none of my family members ever had trouble with hair loss, not even my grandparents.

The only other cause is…because of major ANXIETY or STRESS.
Oh CPA, why you do this to me??????
But partly, it might be my fault.

I really only started studying for the exam like 14 days before I was scheduled to take it…and trying to learn F2-F10 in 14 days, it really took a toll on me. I would only sleep 4-6 hours a day and spend the whole day in my cave being engrossed in FAR…Barely saw the light of day and I finished F10 with only 2 days to review. Although I wasn’t stressed emotionally, I guess I was stressed physically and mentally.

So for all you people studying for this exam, I bid you to take it seriously, but don’t throw all your life into it disregarding family closure, Eating healthy, staying fit, and seeing natures beauty.(I couldn’t tell you guys how wonderful it was to see the trees and and sun again after finally leaving my room). Yes, you have to cut back on social life and entertainment, but not too much to the extent that you’re being drained out of life itself.

Make sure to schedule well ahead of time to prepare, and as the turtles have taught as, slow and steady will win the race. Just don’t forget to take care and love yourself.

I learned the hard way so you won’t have too.

(But seriously, I hoped I just pass after all this T.T)

I've been losing a lot of hair lately too. Not a spot of hair but just like overall. Every morning when I wake up if I pull on my hair a whole bunch of strands fall out. And I see all these clumps of hair on the floor if I don't sweep for a week. I thought it was the heat causing it (like how cats and dogs shed in summer), not the stress from testing. This summer has been nasty. Then again, maybe it just comes in cycles.

You're a guy so it might be male pattern baldness.

My hair went a little Greyer during the exam process.

It's all good though because Chicks Dig the Grey Look these days : )

I mapped the master plan to take down FAR and REG in one testing period, but little i knew back then what that would cause to my body. I not only lost some hair overall, but I also gain 15 pounds in 4 months! Even my own parents say that I look like 40 when I am actually just 25. But I am already starting to accept all these facts one by one. And one day, once we become rich and famous CPAs, liposuction and hair implants are going to be very affordable.

Two certainties in life while studying for this nightmare
    1) Hair fall
    2) Weight gain

    BEC - July 2016 → 78
    AUD - Sep 2016
    REG - Nov 2016
    FAR - Feb 2017

To the guys in here, count yourself lucky. When I started this process, I already had NO hair! Thanks, male pattern baldness. Anyway, I guess that could be a good thing since I didn't have any more to lose. I've been shaving my head for a while now (to rid of the little fuzz I can get). I like to think I look like Bruce Willis. Like I said, I like to think that.

Anyhow, weight gain on the other hand. No comment. I need to hit the gym again, if I remember how. Now that I am DONE as of 9/9!

    @skynet
… I'll have to try your method of the grey look. I'll have to use a grey marker though…wonder how the chicks will perceive that – maybe I should ask the wife first.
