Hey guys I wanted to get some opinions on my chances with getting into either one of these firms. I graduated last May with a bachelor’s in accounting. I am completing my 150 through other means than a masters program, just want to save money. I will be done with my 150 in december. I began as a Financial Reporting Intern last May and I am now a Financial Reporting Associate at a small private firm full-time.

My cousin just recently got hired as a senior tax manager at EY and he said come recruiting season, he’d see what he can do. Also, an old teammate of mine from high school who works at RSM directed me to a recruiter who went to our high school and she said she’d love to have me in for an interview for a tax position.

I know that of course, I ultimately have to present myself well in an interview but is there a good chance of me landing an interview for either of those after what I just stated above.

Chances of you getting an interview are pretty high if you meet the qualifications that they are looking for. Chances of getting the job will all depend on how well you do in the interview.

For EY, make sure you have the right GPA. I wasted a lot of time recruiting with them and developing a good relationship with the recruiter and all the professionals that visited, and I interviewed for multiple programs (early rotational program for minorities, SLP, etc.). Turns out, my GPA wasn't high enough so I was never a serious candidate to them.

I had a really great relationship with the recruiter and people within the firm, and no one ever pulled me aside to be real with me and just kept stringing me along.

This may be specific to my experience or area (Florida) but just something to keep in mind.

(Also, it's not a waste to network and recruit, but it was a “waste” in the sense that all these people kept interacting with me fully knowing they were never going to hire me).

It’s easy to beat yourself up. Hope this works out but if not, another will.
