Is it a waste of time to watch the videos for AUD?

Just finishing up Section 2 in Roger for AUD and feel like he’s basically reading the book back to me. His videos were a big help for FAR, but not sure they’re necessary for AUD since it’s mostly conceptual and memorization. I’ve been watching the videos on 1.5 speed to save some time. Reminds me of the guy in the Micro Machine commercials from the 80’s lol.

Me and you are the same person, I swear! I felt the same way…section 2 of Roger AUD is like 90% just him rereading the book. I did the same thing and sped through while taking light notes. I think watching the lectures is just about getting you familiar with the terms and concepts. He picks up steam when he goes through Internal Control, assertions and reports, so hang in there. Im noticing that I'm learning the most from the MCQs. It's like the lectures give you a foundation and the MCQs help build the house! I would slow it down a tad and try to take notes to stay engaged. I think I made that mistake when I was watching the lectures and now I notice that I dont remember ANYTHING regarding audit sampling and IT. Take your time.

Hahaha yea it seems that way! Hopefully we get the same passing score on this one too lol. How far along are you? I haven't been taking any notes. I feel like everything I read is potentially important and would probably end up rewriting the book lol. I plan on copying the Ninja notes and rewriting them a couple weeks before the exam. I agree that doing the MCQs reinforce the reading and help with retention. This section was brutal to try and read. Hopefully it gets a little easier.

    RE2PECT,

I have RogerCPA and NINJA. I am studying FAR. Failed miserably the first time. What exactly is your structure to everything? My first time around, I felt that trying to incorporate Roger and NINJA just made things even more confusing, stressing and time wasting.

Wasn't really my questions. But, thanks the for the response. I know Roger is a good program. I just don't know if it is right for me. And on top of that, I don't even know how to use it. I already went once through Roger and I failed miserably. I was just all over the place due to trying everyone's different advice. I need more structure. Plus, my first time around, I went through the Roger lecture videos and when it came time for roger mcqs, ninja mcqs and even the exam, it felt like those questions went to a deeper level than Roger did in his lectures, and touched on a different side of the topic than what Roger did. There wasn't a single question on the FAR exam that jumped out at me where I knew 100% that was the answer. Plus, I sit down in front of Roger lecture video and then I black out, wake up and 3 hours have passed.

I don't recall how many, but I was trending pretty decently. Like in the 70's I believe. But, that is NINJA. I am talking about Roger. If I am going to go the Roger route, I need to go that direction 100% and nothing else. If I am going to go the NINJA route, I need to go that direction and nothing else. My issue last time through was the added stress, confusion and instability by trying to match NINJA with Roger. That is why I asked RE2ECPT what exactly his structure/schedule to his FAR studying.

I watched all Roger's Lectures and did all his 1660 IPQ MCQ and all Wiley Test Bank MCQ. I passed 🙂 In fact, I actually over study a little bit to pass that thing

To answer your question, it boils down to your personal learning style! Stick with whatever worked best for you in high school and college. Are you a visual learner? Auditory? Kinesthetic?

For me, I always did best on tests when I read the book and did my homework. Lecture never helped me in college. In high school, I had THE WORST attendance, but I was valedictorian, because I read the text books! For the CPA, I read the books and usually didn't watch the video lectures, and passed the exams. Everyone is different.

It all boils down to your personal learning style.

@CR7MU I may not be the model you want to follow, but I will tell you what I did while preparing for this beast lol. When I started studying for FAR I was all over the place since it was my first exam and I was trying to figure out what worked best for me. In the beginning I would watch all the videos in a section, then go back and read and take notes. After that I would do some mcq's from Roger's test bank, but not all of them for each section. Once I got around to Section 10 I felt like it was taking too long so I ditched the mcq and just watched the videos and took notes while reading the text. Once I got through all the videos I started the Ninja MCQ and that's where I felt it started to come together. Even though I was getting terrible scores I was learning from the answer explanations. For Roger, I didn't like the way their explanations were in paragraph format for a lot of the computational questions. It made it hard to visualize and I found Ninja did a much better job at breaking them down. I tried to go through the Ninja MCQ in the same order as Roger's book and almost made it through all the questions. By the end I was only trending 67% and had a feeling I was going to be on the bubble come score release. By the end I had attempted around 2500 mcq. I would say around 600 were from Roger and the rest were Ninja. Roger's mcq are a little easier, but there are a lot of the same mcq in Ninja. He does have some challenging questions, but overall I prefer Ninja.

Other things I did to prepare were type most of the journal entries in Roger's book into a word file and print out all the entries from the sites below. I reviewed them all a couple days before the exam, but I didn't spend a whole lot of time on them. Most people on here say you must know all your JE's, and they're right to an extent, but I was definitely not an expert on them. If there were any I would definitely make sure you know are all the entries for bonds (issues, retirements, and conversions), S/E (cost & par value method), asset sales, and Gov/NFP (opening and closing budgetary entries). I probably listened to the Ninja Audio at least 10 times on my commute and read the Notes around 3 times. I didn't rewrite my notes and honestly, I barely went back to look at them. Once I got to the MCQ's it was mostly that and I mixed in around 25 sims for a change of pace.

    https://sites.google.com/site/farnotes/gas-34/journal-entries–fund-based-vs-government-wide

After going through the mcq's on exam day, I felt like I wasn't doing well. The questions didn't seem to get harder and I ended up flagging around 20-25 of them. I really believe what saved me was the sims. I think I nailed at least 4 of them and got partial credit on the other ones. I'm pretty sure the one I had no idea on was a pretest, but I'll never know for sure. Maybe I'm selling myself short because I did put a lot of time into studying, but didn't think I was going to pass. I considered rescheduling, but felt I had nothing to lose taking the exam on the last day of the window. I'm not the most religious person, but I had a lot of family members praying for me and I needed every single one of them!

@RE2PECT Im almost three weeks in. My test is in another three weeks. After about 1600 mcqs, the puzzle is starting to become a picture, but there's a few gaps.I've been rewriting Ninja Notes and making notes whenever I get questions wrong. I'm reaching that point where some of the theory is becoming common sense. Hang in there!

For Roger users do you feel like there are way more MCQs per section for audit? I am having trouble getting through them all because for FAR there were hardly as many…..So demotivating when I move on to the next week without finishing ALL of roger MCQ……i'm getting really off track i think…
