I was wondering if anyone had experience with this. I am considering sitting for the exam as I meet the education requirement, however, I do not want to peruse this further unless I am 100% sure I can meet the experience requirement in my current occupation. I work in Government (for the state) as an Internal Auditor. Pretty much everyone I work with/for is a CPA but no one can give me a straight answer on this. Everyone I talk to seems to have attained their experience elsewhere (other state agencies, private sector etc.) and thinks that I should too. Unfortunately, I am not interested in transferring or moving to private sector to attain this experience.
According to the CBA (California Board of Accountancy) handbook I need 12 months experience “providing any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax, or consulting skills.”
As an Internal Auditor I would say I definitely “use” accounting, attest, and consulting skills in a general sense so I feel that I should meet this requirement here as I have been an Auditor for over 2 years.
Has anyone had any experience with this or a similar situation or can anyone give me any advice here? I would really appreciate it, thanks in advance!
