So I have received two offers, one from a larger regional firm and one from a smaller firm. In deciding which offer to accept I am trying to make an informed decision. The larger regional firm has a good footprint online, and employees have left reviews on Glassdoor. The smaller firm has a very small footprint online, and I am struggling to find research on the firm.

Any suggestions to find information on the firm beyond their website, and glassdoor?

Try searching for any connections you may have with the company LinkedIn. Or ask a someone whose advice and opinion you trust on whether they have heard of either firm.

Go with the regional firm. You may get more exposure to different areas in a smaller firm but there usually is limited growth opportunities in smaller firms due to size. It also looks better on your resume to have a firm that is more reputable.

I agree with GotCPA, especially if you are only planning on getting exposure to public accounting. However, if you really feel that the smaller firm is a better culture fit, you are in it for the long haul, and you can do more of what you want there(because smaller firms will usually expose you to more of the job, quicker), then don't be scared to accept their offer.

I regret not being able to get into regional. 20-person firm is good for learning everything both audit and tax and you get to see through the start/end of an entire audit too.

However, it's a better career move at a larger firm for sure.

I will go for the larger firm without hesitation.

I disagree with most of the others. I always thought I would go with a big 4 firm, but before I had my master's degree I took an offer with a 20 person local firm and I haven't regretted it for a minute. I've learned so much about both audit and tax and am constantly getting to be challenged with projects and proving my abilities. Maybe I got lucky because I am with a growing local firm and not a super small stagnant firm, but I believe the best way to know if you will like a local firm is to get to know the employees. Other commenters are correct in that you should definitely consider your future career plans when choosing to accept an offer. As for me, I couldn't imagine not working in a small public firm now.
