Welp I found out last night that I passed my last section, BEC, and I am done with this miserable journey. I wanted to leave you all with some advise that I found useful in my studies over the last year. First and foremost, it’s just a test. We have this awful habit of making the CPA exam way more than what it is. Yes, it’s hard but what accounting exam have you taken that hasn’t been hard? Once I got into this mindset I started rolling. Next, stop bogging yourself down with the topics you don’t understand too well. Most of us study anywhere from a month to two months for an exam and we each have certain topics that we just don’t understand and odds are we won’t understand them in time for our exam day. It is equally important to spend as much time on the topics you know as it is the ones you don’t. By refreshing your strong points, you build confidence and create a stronger mindset going into test day as opposed to hammering difficult topics that you don’t understand and wrecking your confidence on exam day. For me it was pensions and leases in FAR. I went through each lecture once and that was it. I knew I wasn’t going to understand it like I needed to so I didn’t waste that time that could be used somewhere else. Finally, have confidence. You have all made it this far in your accounting career so you are smart enough to tackle these exams. Don’t sit in the exam room second guessing yourself and worrying about whether your second testlet got easier or not because now instead of only missing one question, you are still worried about the last one so now you have probably missed two. Keep an even keel. Don’t get too high and don’t get too low because emotions are your absolute worst enemy throughout this entire process. Best of luck to you all and may God bless you. You can do this.
