Hello,

I have met all of the requirements in IL aside from the 3 hour req in Audit. What are my options to fulfilling the requirements to sit for the exam?

One option is to take additional classwork, has anyone taken one course to meet a specific set of the requirements and, if so, would you recommend a similar path? Who provided the course?

Is it a feasible option to take the test in another state where my experience meets the requirements? If so, do I need to physically travel to that state to sit for the exam?

I will not practice in the public accounting realm. I completed my MBA at Booth a few years back and currently work as a CFO – I just want to complete the exam to add to resume.

I got the CPA for the same reason as you, and was also short 1 course in audit to take the exam in MA. I ended up taking the audit course online from LSU, which is a popular option. There was quite a bit of busy work, but if you think of it as preparation for AUD, it's time well spent.

You can take the exam in another state if you meet the requirements elsewhere. You can take the exam at any Prometric center in the US, regardless of which state you are a candidate in. I believe Washington doesn't require an audit course, and also doesn't require you to work in public accounting. If you want to be a IL CPA by reciprocity, it is a very straightforward process that you can start immediately after getting licensed in another state, but there's no real need.

Did you end up doing the extra coursework because it served as a good study tool for the actual exam? I have considered doing the same.

Since it sounds like I can take the exam with any state out of a Prometric facility in Chicago (where I live) and I have no need to actually be licensed in IL, I would consider taking a course if it is a substitute for otherwise studying for the AUD exam.

I took the one extra course because MA requires an audit course, which I didn't have. I ended up transferring scores to WA, which doesn't require one, but the course material was the same as what is covered in AUD, so I only needed to do a tiny bit of review (since it took a couple months to get the NTS) to pass AUD. If I didn't have to, I would've just studied for AUD from Roger.

AUD is probably the only exam section narrow enough in scope to study for by taking a regular college course, though.
