If in public, when did you start your job after graduation?

Just graduated in May, and the HR staff just notified me that the start date for new associates is November 1. Just curious because this seems like a long time to wait after graduation, granted they probably want you to get your CPA done.

UPDATE: I interned with the company last spring of 2015. A full year before graduation. Got an offer after my internship was over.

    Thanks 🙂

I accepted a job offer in October (2015) and am starting in September … it is nerve wrecking, to say the least!

Timing worked out really well for me. I interned during my last semester of grad school and was made a permanent offer at the end of my internship. I started working full time about two months later.

I interviewed in December 2015, graduated last week, and will start beginning of July 2016. I was initially told June, but now it’s July. I wish it was October.

Just so you know, this is a common industry practice. They want to train groups of people rather than on-boarding sporadically throughout the year.

^^ The entire new Audit class for us is coming in with a start date of either September 2016 or October 2016. This gives each new start class a few months for training before busy season

I started in August after graduating in the Spring. As has been mentioned, the firms tend to bring in new hires in batches. I'd say November is a bit late yes. Especially since busy season is right around the corner. October is a pretty good sweet spot if you want to be ready for busy season.

One and a half months. I wasn't into networking in college and didn't get a job offer while in college. However, I started applying for positions right after I graduated. I ended up getting a job at a small cpa firm in February and started right away. I also started studying during tax season. I had to work weekends and I thought I was going to have a meltdown because I was studying Ch 2 in becker (becker users will understand…….) and working those long hours during busy season . If you have a break to study for the cpa exam before you start work, I highly recommend it giving it your all and finishing it. You will be able to focus 100% on your job and not have to worry about studying for the exam after those long hard worked hours. A part of me regrets not finishing the exam before working. Hopefully I won't have to hard of a time passing these exams. But it is hard when you start working because your life will be studying, sleeping, eating, and working. It gets depressing. I'm single and have no children (I can say this is the only time where I am grateful for not having a boyfriend hahahahaha). So I don't even have it that bad compared to others. I can't imagine how people can balance a marriage and/or children jn addition to those commitments as well. But when there is a will there is a way. That only shows how inspiring some people are!!
