Hi Everyone, I recently got my VBOA determination letter and that I need 21 credits in upper level courses in Financial, Taxation and Auditing.
    That’s a lot of credits I lack!
I would like to take online courses if possible to fulfill the requirement, could anyone please advise any school and specific courses I should look at? What would be the best way to allocate the 21 credits among Financial, Taxation and Auditing?
I had a non-accounting undergraduate degree and an MBA in marketing (wish I had concentrated on accounting then).

    Thank you so much!

Have you looked at Northern Virginia Community College? The have an accounting program to satisfy the requirements for the VBOA.

If you're fine doing it piece meal TESU offers a standardized, upper level, cheap exam in taxation https://www2.tesu.edu/tecep.php?CourseCode=ACC-421

Hi, I don't have any experience with online college courses or recommendations, so this may not be of any use.
However, if you are looking for specific classes to take to help with the CPA exam- these are the ones I found most helpful (No particular order)
    1. Individual Taxation
    2. Corporate Taxation
    3. Partnership and Entity Taxation
    4. Advanced Business Law (counts for acct hours in my state, may not some places)
    5. Governmental Accounting
    6. Advanced Accounting/Intermediate III
    7. Principles of Auditing

    – Obviously 1-4 were helpful for REG. 5&6 were useful in FAR and 7 was useful in AUD. Of all of these, I would strongly recommend that you take some intermediate-adv acct for FAR and at least 1 or 2 tax classes. I only took 3 hours of auditing total in college, but felt it was very useful in studying for the exams. Good luck.

Hey! I doing the CPA through VBOA and got some credits through Northern Virginia Community College. They have great online and in person classes as well as campuses in multiple locations throughout the NoVa area.

LSU online is good, only catch is I think it’s 8 weeks minimum no matter how quickly you get through it and even though it’s self paced an instructor grades your work. I also used Bryant and Stratton online and Capella – I needed 19 credits total but the only upper level credits I needed that I didn’t have was for Auditing (switched from Accounting to Finance for my Bachelors so had a bunch of upper level credits mixed in). Best of luck.

I am so thankful for all the information provided here. I was totally in the dark when I found that I needed 21 credits! I think I start to see light with all your kind replies.
I will explore the online courses suggested in this thread and begin this journey.
Thanks for the support and encouragement.

I agree with @Chandler on the types of courses to look for. Definitely individual & corp tax, advanced accounting, nonprofit/government accounting, business law, and audit. Tax & non-profit would be the most important ones to take. If you could do them all online take some good notes and then use those notes while studying for the CPA exam later on. good luck!
