I am overwhelmed…..

Would like some opinions if I could please:

Started BEC study, here is what have done –

Wk 1 Roger videos and note taking
Wk 2 Roger videos and finished note taking
Wk 3 Rewrote both Roger notes from all 7 chapters as well as re writing all the Ninja notes too (this took entire week of about 24 hrs in total)
Wk 4 – which is now, I am working thru the Roger MCQ, good lordy me but this is painful. Not only am I scoring horrible, doing sets of 24 MCQ on all topics (have not scored above 55% on ANYTHING) and it takes me forever to even answer them, plus I have to look back at my notes for almost every question.
Wk 5 – was thinking starting Ninja MCQ along with only studying Ninja notes
Wk 6 – same as above
Wk 7 – same as above and my test is the end of week 7

Basically I just overwhelmed with all the things to try to learn. I’m sure everyone feels this but as of now in week 4 I feel like I have made zero progress. I learn two things, then forget one, learn 3 things, then forget two….

Trying not to go into freak out mode but I just don’t think I am anywhere near where I should be? Thanks!

It's normal to have low scores in the beginning. You could read the book 100 times, but it still won't prepare you for how to answer mcq's. The only way to get better is repetition. Don't be afraid to refer to your notes while working questions. It's better to research and find the answer, especially for problems that require a formula. There's way too many formulas to try and memorize, but make note of which ones show up more while you're working mcq's.

    FAR: 75 Roger & Ninja (notes/flashcards/audio/MCQ)
    AUD: 73, 81
    BEC: 71, retake 8/29

Forget about the videos and the books, the books and videos tend to go over EVERYTHING which could be overwhelming. MCQ and SIMS are what likely to be on the exam. Just study the multiple choices and the simulations, understand them, they are what likely to be on the exam.

As long as you understand the concepts, doing MCQ and SIMS only is a good approach, but I found that reading the book and/or listening to lectures helps to solidify the knowledge…. You are still 3 weeks out, so plenty of time for it all to come together enough…Ninja MCQ were great addition to Becker when I studied for BEC, just be prepared to get low scores, but as long you are learning from MCQ, it's all good!

I agree that for BEC all you need to do is study the homework and sim questions. Not sure how well Rogers cover the topic, but Becker did an excellent job. For me the portion with IT, Economic, and COSO were very easy so you really only have half to really focus on. If you look at it that way, it might be less overwhelming. BTW I have no background in IT or economic.

Thanks for feedback. A few more questions…

    1. At what week did you feel you saw your most progress? So far I feel like I'm stuck like Chuck with not improvement in memory retention.

    2. For me zero chance walking in having any remote chance of having all the formulas down. Yes I know it is a “concept” test but again in week 4 of studying, very few of the concepts are sticking with me.

    3. Things like cost, PV and even economic terms are hard for me and I fee like I'm just racking my brain trying to figure these things out.

    4. I'm thinking about just going over Ninja notes, concentrate on MCQ and pray this can get me thru as the Roger book is not really helping me and I don't have the time to watch videos anymore.

    Thank you.

doing MCQ repeatedly really helped me solidify the knowledge. It's a great diagnostic tool and a way to learn. I left a lot of time for BEC because it was my first section so I had plenty of time to go through the entire Ninja testbank in addition to Becker-by the time I took the test I felt pretty good and believe you will remember those formulas! homemade flashcards really helped with those.

I took a long time to review the material. Not because I felt like the time was necessary, but because I was lazy and didn't study every day. By the time I was at the point of only doing MCQs (two and a half weeks until test day), I was pretty comfortable with half of the material (kind of a guess honestly). The final week of studying (and I'd probably do this earlier if I did it over again), I started breaking down my Ninja averages and trending scores by section and focused on the areas I was weakest (e.g., global economics). I know everyone says it, but make sure you read the explanations after each question you're not sure of and use your book if you need things clarified even more.

Don't worry too much about the writing part. If you know the material well and are a capable writer, you'll be fine. I practiced 4 questions or so just to get the hang of it. Do know what the expectations are as far as including keywords, having a beginning and a conclusion, however.

It is an overwhelming process. You are focusing too much on your notes.

I watched the Roger videos, and I took my own notes there. I never rewrote any notes, everyone is different, but to me that would have been a gigantic waste of time. After the lectures, I just did a ton of MCQ. I would go back and read my notes when needed, but never rewriting them, that is one thing that I absolutely disagree with Jeff on.

Mitch, thx for the comments. I rewrote my notes as thought it would be a good visual reference for me. I have no choice but to go back and reference them for almost every question I come across.

I'm really struggling with all of the info. When I mean all I really mean that. I'm onto nothing but MCQs now and do them in all subject matters 24 each at a time. I have not passed one set, into almost 300 mcq's on Rogers so far. Worst part is takes me way more than 90 seconds to answer well over 75% of them. For whatever reason the material is just not sticking with me.

I will be thru the majority of Roger MCQ's by next week then will move onto Ninja MCQ so I'm seeing fresh ones I hope. My BEC exams is in 22 days so something better start to click. To me the Roger MCQ are very difficult and the videos I watched and the notes I read and took are just not working as of today.

    @Good Lordy

I have a similar process to you, minus the rewriting the notes.

I watch all Roger videos and take notes. When I finish, I go straight into MCQ until test day. I try to do 100 MCQs a day in batches of 20. I take notes on the ones I struggle with (whether right or wrong).

I fill in gaps of studying (when I'm not near a computer) by reading the text on areas I need more practice with.

@goodlordy, maybe you need to spend a little time reading the chapters, sounds like a concept issue between the material and answering the questions. Some times reading helps clear up the why in some of the questions. The answer given for the question is not always clear, so when you see that type of question again, you will know where to apply the information you know. Personally, I like rewriting the notes and listening to the ninja audio, but I still need the book at times to search out answers not so clear.

    It begins with a 75
