I graduated with an Accounting 7 years ago. Sadly, when I graduated I didn’t purse to look for an accounting job at the time. Now I want to purse to look for an entry level accounting position and considering leaving my current job which is not accounting and I don’t see much advancement. I would like to know if I should go back to school to refresh my accounting knowledge or get like an accounting certificate? Also I have been volunteering as a tax preparer this year and I liked it too. So this could be a something I want to pursue. Yes I have sat for the CPA exams before when I graduated, but I would like to gain some accounting experience before I start studying again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend getting a Masters at a university where the Big 4 recruits.

I somewhat agree with the above poster. I believe that getting a master's degree would be ideal since you have been out of college for a long time and you need a refresher. Even though these exams are more than a refresher, I can't imagine actually retaining a lot of information I've learning for long term since I'm going through them so quickly.

Also the requirements have changed drastically for sitting and licensure. Given the new exam changes next year, I think you'll be in better shape with a master's degree. You don't necessarily need to go big 4. Since you've been industry and know what type of environment suits you, I would conduct research on the firms that might be recruiting from whichever university you choose. Good luck.
